Registered Member Posts: 3079 10/02/11 11:02 AM	If you look at Martinez in this fight it's so easy to see he's a one dimensional fighter all he throws in straight jabs and straight lefts. Any real boxer knows when your opponent puts the "earmuffs" on like Barker did you attack the body, put rounds in the bank, and weaken the other fighter. Martinez did that maybe twice in the fight and got results everytime. Why he stopped I have no clue. Now his trainer Gunna is having legal problems in California and could not travel to AC for the fight. But I don't see Martinez as a fighter that will give a good boxer any trouble. He's very easy to solve and beat. If Martinez fought behind his jab (which does have some pop when he sits down on it) and learned how to defend with his hands up, and learned to throw hooks, and not fall completely off balance when he throws the stright left he'd be ok. WEAK!!!! Though he holds the lineal title, Sergio Martinez is not a middleweight. He's a good-sized 154lber. With that said, Ex is a Light Heavy champ. How are you comparing that jump to that of Pac/Floyd jumping to Jr. Middle, where both PBF and Pac won titles at? Btw, Sergio agreed to a catch weight of 150. IMO, the only way Sergio gets a shot at those two (and it would only happen after Pac-PBF) will be if he re-claims a piece of the 154 title. I'd love to see him fight the winner of Cotto/Margs II. Bernard is a Light Heavy. two divisions heavier than Sergio. If its so far - fetched for him to man up, why is he wanting other ppl to make the same jump He says there's no fights for him, as if he's cleaned out the division he fights in. Very good win for him last nite tho cus Barker wasnt a scrub. Loco

He did try to go to the body in the later rounds but he should have been doing that from the beginning on a high guard style boxer. That's just common boxing sense. Martinez's style makes him a fighter that can be beat. He doesn't fight the conventional way, yet his style is perfect for a traditional boxer because he makes mistakes in the ring. Look at the champs at 154 and 160, who wants to fight him? No one wants Martinez. The risk doesn't match the reward. Pac and Floyd have won a title at 154, and Sergio said he'll go down to 150. I think both of them would be dumb to try to fight him at a catch weight of 150. Barker hit sergio more then you would have thought but he took every shot in stride. What he did in the 10th round is typical Sergio. You don't give Barker enough credit he is a well trained classic boxer. He also is taller then Sergio which made it a little more difficult not to mention the orthodox vs southpaw "advantage" that barker thought he had. I think sergio is too strong and pretty equivalent in speed to may and paq. Say what you will about his power and lack of blocking his fights are exciting. And he goes out of his way to make them exciting. Its a shame he doesn't get more love. He is willing to exchange and the last 3 fights have been stoppages, pavlik was a blood bath and Williams part one was an epic battle.

Martinez finally stepped in a ring with a true MW. This notion of him getting in with Hop is pure stupidity. Hop is the lineal Light Heavyweight Champion. And probably walks around at 200. Sergios next 3 fights should be Sturm , JCC jr, Pirog ,(Maybe Andy Lee) JCC jr -Sergio does good numbers at the Staples center . Toshioka - Marquez was a solid fight started off a bit slow Toshioka is a very smart fighter does eveything pretty well not a lot of mistakes , Marquez couldnt pull the trigger early if he would have started a bit earlier he could have got the win , hes clearly lost a step or 2 Toshioka couldnt miss him with the straight left hand . As far as Sergio moving up or down to fight Many , Floyd or Hopkins , Floyd wont go up cause the money isnt there , Mannys wont go up cause he just isnt big enough . Sergio just feels he is too small for hopkins , and not no mention it wouldnt be very exciting . I think de la hoya gave mayweather some trouble though and i think sergio is stronger then Oscar was in his prime and similar in speed. Subjective yes lol I am a big sergio supporter. I see floyd being a little too technical for martinez. But Martinez is quite fast and i don't think after a round or two of getting tagged by floyd would he keep fighting with absolutely 0 guard like he did vs Barker. But manny vs sergio would def be entertaining to say the least.
