I disagree with this. One must know how to work with the textures provided by denim, therefore the choices in dress pants should provide texture and weight as well. Dress flannels, Plaids, and even Winter linens work exceptionally well with denim jackets. If dressing up the look, a cashmere crew or v neck sweater, with contrasting layering underneath, then rocking a pair of shell cordovan shoes paired with a suede belt can set the look off, adding even more texture, then creating a seriously polished overall look. The above pic looks like any kid walking along 14 street in NYC with a stupid tag on his hat, nothing special about that.

I love the craftsmanship behind them, then love the work, so yes, I like those. I would not wear them, but I like them. But if you truly understand denim, you know that the darker the denim, the more formal it can be, then be used. Dark indigo denim, jackets included, work exceptionally well with semi formal clothing. Rules in fashion are made to be broken. There is a reason for anything in regard to styling and self expression, including wearing those stupid little tags on baseball caps. Whatever message that sends, I am happy to not be a part of.

BTW, don't be angry at the fact that you do not understand textural and tonal play, it can be learned. Just study, then understand depth, weaves, interplay between thickness and projection, then perhaps you'll get better at it.
