Just because someone show you some love don't make him your friend. Especially when its industry love. Bottom line, if Weeknd wasn't buzzin Drake wouldn't be embracing him. So for Weeknd to jump off the ledge and start poppin fly over a situation that has NOTHING to do with him is outta pocket. What makes it worse is this ain't even on some ol' rap crew beef a la State Property where maybe you can stretch your role as a soldier when Jay beefs with Nas and you take a few shots on some crew love steez. OVOXO is not a rap crew, mob, gang, squad, or whatever other term you want to use that gives hip hop crews street cred. IDGAF how many dudes in black crew necks Drake puts in his videos. HOB took off when Drake put one of his tracks on his blog. And the Weeknd is buzzing because the quality of the music is superior not because Drake cosigned him. That's that industry gaffle for you. Same thing happened with Drake. Anyone who thinks Drake wouldn't have been a huge star without the YMCMB cosign is kidding themselves. Sure the cosign opens up a few avenues but it's not the determining factor in whether or not someone will blow. When House of Balloons dropped everyone was promoting dude via word of mouth. Sure Drake may have opened up a few eyes and ears by virtue of his popularity but people didn't buy in because of a Drake cosign, they bought in because the music is great. If he wasn't affiliated with Drake...would you still have the same opinion? You are SERIOUSLY making it seem like a little %!% tweet is Weeknd "entering the battle" or something. It REALLY doesn't warrant this much commentary. As for 40... @OVO40 Noah ShebibAfter "one day it'll all make sense" came out I spent months arguing weather or not @common was hip hop. Everyone was saying it was too rnb. You can twist that to come up with your own interpretation of what he said...but it's as CLEAR as day that he didn't "question" whether Common was hip hop. And we can argue "what ifs" all day long...but the fact remains is that Drake gave them dudes a HUGE look with the co-sign and the whole XO camp has said as much. Like dude above said...it's a MILLION talented dudes out here who would rise to stardom with that kind of co-sign. Damn near EVERY review/article about HOB when it dropped noted that Drake helped bring awareness to dude. Certainly more than a "few" looks. And putting him on Take Care introduced him to an even bigger audience that hadn't heard HOB or Thursday. My @+!+@+$ 40 year old aunt blew my phone up asking me to send her his stuff after Crew Love was aired on the radio during her morning commute...when she isn't a part of the demographic that would be online checking for new artists. You can chalk up the co-sign as a minor thing if you want to. I'm out of this discussion. $%++ let their personal feelings of the artists interfere with rationality in these matters.
