It's not like Union Square in SF or anywhere really in Manhattan, where there are shops and restaurant/bars galore. There isn't much to do besides Staples and LA Live, there are a few bars and restaurants but that's about it and if you go into the wrong part of downtown, you'll hit skid row with all of the homeless. If you have access to a car, you can pretty much go anywhere whenever you want, so I don't really think it matters too much where you stay. How long are you in town for? And what are you planning to do here?

LOLDon't even think about it. damn i was born and raised in socal, been here all 31+ years of my life, and i have no idea how our public transportation system works. i took the bus for the first (and only) time like 3 yrs ago, and i did it more for the novelty of it than out of necessity.

There are no bars, no nightclubs, no shopping centers / malls, anything of that sort. It's mainly a massive business district and on the weekend, because all of the businesses are closed, it's like a ghost town around there. Not a human being in sight.I don't know how much this has changed now that there is all that junk at Staples with the LA Live stuff, but Downtown LA is definitely one of the most boring places I've ever been. I stayed at the Grand on Wilshire Blvd on my first trip to the US, definitely was not what I was expecting I guess I am a bit confused, could you narrow down a location that makes most sense? Thanks.

Mojodmonky1 wrote:^ hahahaha how you gonna go from microbrew to 40's? if youre talkin bout a regular 40 like a Mickeys, OE, or King Cobra, or something like that, most any liquor store will carry them. if you are into beer there are countless bars and restaurants all over LA that have pretty legit selections of beer on tap. Just let me know where you will be an I will try to point you in the right direction. theres this sportsbar right by house in Marina Del Rey that has a decent selection on tap including Dogfishhead 90min IPA and its not that expensive (I think its like $10 for a 22oz mug). Word to the wise, do NOT attempt to drink 4 of these within the span of 1 NFL game on an empty stomach, and then yell out in a drunken stupor in front of all of your wife's coworkers that you're going to punch your wife in the face because youre so upset that your team lost. not that i know from experience or anything.
