Official John Legend "Evolver" Discussion Thread

agree with many of the posters here.. i love JL cuz frankly he puts out quality music all the time, but i cant help but feel there was a lack of direction, lack of substance with this last one. i almost feel like it was rushed and miss the piano tunes that seem to be more infrequent as his album count gets higher.i will play this album.. i will play it a lot.. and i dont think it's bad, but it's not on par with the first 2 which were fantastic.

this is straight piff......
Get lifted>>> Evolver>> Once Again .....although i liked Once Again(8/10), i think this album has a little more musicality than that album andhas more repeatability.

Soulful wise? Yes as a complete album... i don't think so JL went to that place with Once Again so he went in a different direction with this LP...this#$%^ is classical(not Beethoven classical) growth!!! I love it!

If Once Again took awhile to grow on you , then i hate to say it but Mr. legend just ain't for you homie

Seriously? I've been listening to This Time, Quickly, If You're Out There, Everybody Knows non-stop.

it's not OA as stated but this is a great album if you ask me. i cant skip any song.
satisfaction is that piff right now.

It says the Deluxe Edition of the CD comes with a DVD... Anyone know whats on it? Live Performances?

I like this CD. Really synth heavy, which is good or bad depending on the song.

It's not as soulful as I'd like, as others have stated previously, but it will be played. I thought this one was a bit more, well, bland. I mean sure, alot of the songs are very original, but some are just same formula here, same beat there. Some of the songs started sounding the same, to be honest.

But in conclusion, I would give it 3.8/5. Always have been a Legend fan, no matter what direction he takes. Go out and purchase the CD!

I think Once Again is one of the best RnB albums ever . This isn't anywhere near Once Again, and I'm very disappointing. Once Again was a much more mature album. Not enough soul for me on this one. I knew it was going to be hard for him to top Once Again but he didn't even come close with this album. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent album and I will listen to it a lot based on the fact that I think he's the best RnB singer out but I expected more.

Took the words out of my mouth.

I've only listened to this through once...but very few tracks "stuck out" like on the first two albums. Reggae beats and JL-not good; 4 featureson 13 songs-not good. And like others have said, this album doesn't have the soul of the other two.

Album is crack. I finally got my copy today and am listening for the first time. Once Again took a while to grow on me but I love it now. This is excellent onfirst listen.

Really? Once Again took a while for people to get into?

I think its his best work yet. i loved it immediately.

Evolver is pretty good. Still gotta give it a 2nd spin

I like this album , but i am a bit disappointed that he laid off the keys , and went more digital

Once Again , as mentioned before , is for me the best R & B album top to bottom i have ever owned

I think Once Again is one of the best RnB albums ever . \

Get Lifted is virtually FLAWLESS. from start to finish 100% soul and passion

that and tp2.com are easily my 2 favorite r&b albums. i

People are upset this cd doesn't have that 'souful' sound...doesn't the album title tip you off to the direction of the CD?

Legend decided to (for the most part) step away from the piano and deliver a CD that fans wern't expecting. I know I didn't expect to hear tracks like"Take me away" and "Cross the line", there not typical John Legend records, but I think he did a great job with the challenge he presentedhimself with.

He stepped away from his traditional piano sound and took a risk, from what I'm listening too the risk paid off.
