BIG news in the recruiting world on the eve of Midnight Madness as Kansas got a commitment from Big Man Thomas Robinson today. Why do you care? Well because he is a power forward in the Class of 2009….the very same position and class as Daniel Orton. Kansas chose Robinson as a "sure thing" and Robinson picked the Jayhawks over Memphis. But now that clears the way for Orton (who had Kansas as a "co-leader") to potentially pick the Cats, possibly very soon. Could be a big weekend in Lexington….stay tuned.

Pattern of Excellence: Nike and UK to Unveil New Look for Hoops Team

New Uniforms Pay Homage to Spirit and Culture of Bluegrass State

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Nike and the University of Kentucky will celebrate the state's great tradition on the hardwood this evening, while recognizing another tradition intertwined within the spirit, culture and history of the Bluegrass state.

With Lexington's historic Keeneland racetrack as the backdrop, representatives from Nike and UK will formally unveil new uniforms for the 2008-09 University of Kentucky men's basketball team. The updated look incorporates a multitude of performance innovations and a distinctive design that draws upon another rich Kentucky institution as ingrained in the state's lore as basketball - horse racing.

Inspiration from the Track
Across the rolling hills, from Keeneland to Churchill Downs, the echoes and influence of the thoroughbred are virtually omnipresent throughout the state of Kentucky. The University of Kentucky's new uniforms pay tribute to the state's long and prestigious horse racing tradition, as well as that of its men's basketball program, one that has garnered over 1900 wins and seven championships.

Inspired in part by the jockey silks that adorned the likes of Kentucky legends on the racetrack, the Wildcats' new shorts and jerseys each features elements of a royal blue and white checkerboard pattern. The checkered design subtly plays out on the front of the team's jerseys and shorts.

In addition, on Kentucky's white uniforms, a blue and white checkerboard swatch is centered on the waistband of their shorts and features eight individual "boxes." Emblazoned in seven of the eight squares are the numbers '48, '49, '51, '58, '78, '96 and '98, representing championship seasons for the Wildcats. The "empty" eighth quadrant serves as a reminder of the school's legacy and motivation for the current Wildcats to ensure another year is soon inscribed within it.

"Our hope was to use the uniform as a canvas to tell a bigger story of the championship spirit of the state of Kentucky and its basketball team," said Tracy Teague, Global Creative Director for Nike Basketball. "Additionally, we desired to create functional uniforms that allowed the players to display the athleticism, power, speed and strength critical for success on the court."

Performance Benefits for the Court
Kentucky's new uniforms incorporate several Nike innovations that were first introduced for the USA Basketball Men's National Team that captured gold this past August in Beijing. The jerseys take advantage of Nike Aerographics, an engineered mesh providing zoned cooling that reduces up to half the yarn, making it more lightweight and breathable. Specific adjustments in the waistband, shoulder seam and other areas, along with Nike Dri-FIT technology, provide increased comfort and thermoregulation to enable players to perform at their optimal level on the court.

"The University of Kentucky is honored to be selected as the first collegiate basketball team to incorporate Nike's new innovations," said Kentucky Head Coach Billy Gillispie. "The elements of the new uniforms featuring two of our greatest heroes are a reminder of the passion that the Bluegrass state has for its horse racing and Kentucky basketball."

Honoring a Kentucky Legend
In addition to design and performance enhancements, the Wildcats new look is special for another important reason. Each player's jersey includes a special call out to Kentucky legend Bill Keightley. In the Bluegrass state, and basketball circles around the world, Keightley was known simply as "Mr. Wildcat." He served as an equipment manager for the University of Kentucky men's basketball team for more than 48 years and was a part of their '78, '96 and '98 championship teams.

An enthusiastic and ever-welcoming fixture of Wildcats basketball for nearly half a century, Keightley is one of only two non-players to have a jersey retired in Rupp Arena and in 2007 was inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame. He died earlier this year at the age of 81, and, in his honor, UK's new uniforms feature a black patch across the shoulder with "Mr. Wildcat" in script.

Midnight Madness Debut
The Wildcats will wear the new uniforms for the first time during the school's Midnight Madness festivities and throughout the 2008-09 season.

The Big East is amazing this year. May be deeper than a few years back.

Here is our roster

23 Eric Devendorf Junior 6-4
25 Kevin Drew Freshman 6-2
10 Jonny Flynn Sophomore 6-0
11 Paul Harris Junior 6-5
00 Rick Jackson Sophomore 6-9
33 Scoop Jardine Sophomore 6-1- Possibly done for the year. Foot.
4 Wesley Johnson Freshman 6-7
3 Mookie Jones Freshman 6-6
32 Kris Joseph Freshman 6-7
12 Krisof Ongenaet Senior 6-8
21 Arinze Onuaku Junior 6-9
5 Jake Presutti Senior 6-3
1 Andy Rautins Junior 6-5
2 Justin Thomas Senior 6-1
45 Sean Williams Sophomore 6-11

Bold are contributing players.

This is our best team in a while. I am expecting a higher seed then most. We actually have a good of leaders who can play. No some bum *+*$+@$ Nichols/Watkins.

The starting lineup may change depending on whether Devo is good to go.

The Big East is stacked. So many good teams and a lot of teams that could be end up being real good.

Our roster should contend for a top 4 finish. And Ill just say that I hope to finish top couple. We should be able too. But we haven't lived up toexpectations in a while.

Flynn/Harris/Devo will be our big scorers. Rautins is top 5 shooter in the country.

The weakness is defiantly our inside game. After Arinze it is weak as hell. We can't get into foul trouble.

We will finally be prepared for some BE play. Nice non conference scheulde.

Time for some College basketball
pimp.gif

Sorry but those UK unis aren't that nice.

Expect a lot of controversy to circle the SU basketball program when the season starts. I mentioned it the off-season college bball thread but for those thathaven't heard I'll mention it again. Last November Jonny Flynn, Scoop Jardine and Rick "dumb as rocks" Jackson were charged with sexualassault. Jonny Flynn is the only one who had his charges dropped (I wonder why?) but Jardine and Jackson are still under the microscope. The newspaper andmedia in Syracuse have done a great job of keeping this under wraps but anyone who's in the know in terms of College Basketball (not that rivals andscout.com %%*!+$$@) has heard what happened here on the hill. This is Scoop's second strike and I expect him to be kicked out of school before SpringBreak.

As far as the OOC goes, it's not great but depending on how our season goes this year it'll be somewhat good. The standout games are Memphis, Cornell(NCAA tourney last year), Florida and the winner of Kansas/Washington. UVA isn't that good of a team and a loss to them would look terrible.

The only question I have about this team is whether or not Boeheim will coach to keep the lead or go for the jugular when he has the chance.

Not going to this year's Midnight Madness unless I get word as to whether or not the Syracuse Hyperdunks will be sold as a quickstrike release.

Yo what is good with Michigan. I thought Beilien was going to come in and change that program but he seems like he aint doing $%@%. ANyone know whats good withUM?

SCuse, the BE is just about ALWAYS stacked dog.

Yes true. But I mean. You could say it has had a few "down years"

Like people thinking the Pac 10 was better. And doubting if it was the best conference.

Yeah, I agree. That coincides with SJU's down years.

They're like the only "big" school in the BE who hasn't had a good year in like the past what... 5 seasons or so?

Cuz really, Cuse, Conn and G'Town have been holding it down. With Pitt, Nova, WVU always being scrappy....
