The College Basketball Post

Staying in college should be for developing a basketball IQ and experience.  A college kid won't know NBA physicality until he experiences it...no matter how many college games he plays or weights he lifts.

*staying in college should be to raise draft stock. Thats it. There's no real advantage relative to the nba, for staying in college. Physically, the NBA is unmatched and no amount of college preparation is going to prepare you for that. As you said, you have to experience it. From a purely basketball perspective, playing in college is pointless because you're playing with college rules, with college teammates, all of which do not mirror the NBA at all.

This is partly why I scoff at the notion of a kid needing to stay in college to prepare for the nba. Makes no sense

Current top 5 in the draft is Knicks-Wolves-Sixers-Lakers-Magic. Which one of those teams is he not starting for?
it's easier to look on paper and think he could come in and become a great player rookie year. If you look at the past 7 or 8 drafts only 2 to 3 players really adjust to the league and become great players. I'm not saying he won't be good but 15 and 8 is a reach to me. that's cp3 rookie year

Curry is the greatest shooter of our generation and Schroder averaged 3 and 1.5 in 13 mpg his rookie season. Not the best comparisons.

Guys need time to adjust. I just see Russell struggling initally that is all.

Unless he's the elite of the elite which it looks like he isnt, he's going to struggle initially whether he departs as a freshman, or sophomore. Rather leave now, and take your lumps instead of taking them a year older.

Not every rookie is going to set the NBA on fire right away. Guys like Irving, Wall, Rose are the elite of the elite for a reason.
Agreed and that's what I was getting at. I don't see him going off right away. In 2 or 3 years, he'll find himself and look great but that first season or two I think he'll have his ups and downs.

Idk why I picked Harvard to win. Biased to Tommy Amaker I guess. Always wanna see him do well.

Yeah I been drinking, My my bracket is all F'd up, I have no slides comin through the crib, I'm drunk, and my stripper GF found a new man, I'm broke *****! I'm broke!

But we not talking skills and talent right? But physically.

Personally I don't see him going doing ridiculous numbers but he will be a first or second team all rookie.

I guess. I just think him being a year older would prep him more for the next level. The problem with college is its too diluted. Too many guys leave too early. And I don't like the idea of a two year age limit either. I just wish there was a way for these kids to make some cash or something off their likeness while developing instead of being thrust onto an NBA roster and potentially misused by an organization.

Probably the best passer in college, has a good jumper, great iq, just don't know how he'll initally hold up physically against grown men each night. He'll be great down the road just it could be tough for him year one.

I keep bringing up MCW because he was a perfect example of someone that's been able to come in without what you would consider an NBA-body and has been able to put up numbers, albeit on bad teams. I think Russell is significantly better than him, and MCW averaged 16.7 PPG and 6.3 APG. I don't think it's farfetched whatsoever to think that Russell could do that.

This Cincy/Purdue game is good. Which is nice considering the other two games that are on are terrible.

Got Stone Cold Stephen F going to the Sweet 16. Hoping for a big win tonight against Utah...
