The College Basketball Post

Great season by Maryland though. We weren't bearing Kentucky anyway so this loss isn't a killer to me. But the program is better and they might be better next year with Robert Carter Jr in, a back up PG next season and if we are lucky enough to land Diamond Stone. So things are looking up.

btw, what happened to conner frankamp? i knew he transferred to wsu and got into a little trouble.

Congratulations to WSU. Tremendous game played by them yesterday. I underestimated them, tip of the cap to them. VanVleet, Baker, Wessell were unreal. Props.

Can honestly say I am somewhat happy this year's KU season is over. Most frustrating/inconsistent KU team I can ever remember. Selden goes off for 20+ in the Big 12 Tourney, gets a goose egg against Wichita State. I expect Kelly and Cliff to leave, everyone else to return. Maybe Thon Maker will come to KU...could be a really good team next year.

I don't get the Bill Self is overrated talk. Yeah, he got outcoached yesterday...but where are you guys rating him? I'd say he's the 7th or 8th best coach in the country. Has a title, took a very mediocre team to the NCG, 11 straight conference titles...yes, he has the early tournament exits...but doesn't every coach?

^ mason and graham will have time to develop over the off season. All great kansas teams have good guard play which was the reason for inconsistency on this years squad.

Im still holding out hope he lands at Wisconsin

Recruiting class is already pretty good for next year, Stone would put them over the top for sure

I've read it's come down to Wisconsin and Maryland so it will be interesting. I think both teams will be back at the top of the Big Ten next year so who ever he picks gets the edge.

Agreed. Thankfully, they have time. Mason has two more years, Graham has three.

I know dudes love to go out on limbs with their picks but what would lead you to put UNI in the Final Four?
I didn't have faith in Villanova and Louisville isn't as good this year as the past couple of years. I felt confident I made the right pick after seeing UCI put a scare into the cards :\

"Roy Williams is 25-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament, he’s tied with Dean Smith for second all-time in tournament wins, he’s won two national titles, and now he’s salvaged one of his most miserable seasons in recent memory2 with a Sweet 16 berth. Here’s a scary thought: People who think Williams is a bad coach get to vote in elections, and their votes count the same as yours and mine."

yup.

I would love to see my Boys knock off Kentucky this Thursday. I was still in School when we knocked off the John Wall, Demarcus Cousins Edition of Kentucky in the elite eight in 2010. The best east championship and final four run that year was a top moment in my life ever.

And struggles at developing players.
These narratives suck.

He developed Danny Green into an NBA guy. Got KMarsh lotto money after a few years. Brice Johnson has been developed. Not all guys pan out. Dudes blaming him for McAdoo being a bum, when in actuality the dude was a 6'8 PF without elite athleticism that was really closer to his ceiling than people realized.

He's missed alot though. It is a fair evaluation.

Is he just blindly going after players that are rated high by other people? Some bust and some live up to it? Either struggles at evaluating talent or developing it.

2010–11 Florida 29–8 13–3 1st (East) NCAA Elite Eight
2011–12 Florida 26–11 10–6 T–2nd NCAA Elite Eight
2012–13 Florida 29–8 14–4 1st NCAA Elite Eight
2013–14 Florida 36–3 18–0 1st NCAA Final Four

Or was that sarcasm?

Does everyone here think every coach is overrated? My goodness.
seriously. this is getting out of hand.

a lot of this comes down to personal preference. all of the great coaches have strengths and weaknesses.
You just hit the nail on the head. Spot on.

K is great...but what about Lehigh and Mercer?

Cal is great...what about the NIT year?

Roy is great...what about the past 3ish years?

Self is great...what about the early tourney exits?

Pitino is great...what about Morehead State and other down years?

Boeheim is great...what about those down years?

Donovan is great....what about the NIT years?

...every coach has something that you can talk about them being "overrated" ...coaches aren't perfect, they aren't going to have these phenomenal years over and over again. It's not realistic.
