The Official Mac Thread (Docs, Themes, Apps, Etc.)

Just copped a base 21.5" iMac. It comes with these specs:

21.5-inch: 2.7GHz
Specifications
2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
8GB (two 4GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
Intel Iris Pro graphics

I played around with it in the store and it seemed fast enough. I'm wondering if I should have upgraded to 16gb of ram though? I only use my computer for music, emails, and browsing (though I do have like 15 tabs open at any given time).

Also - am I going to regret not going with the 27" model? I felt like that size was just OD big and it's good if you're basically putting it on display in an open room, but mine is going in a nook in my crib. I guess I have 14 days to figure it out.
The ram should be fine if that's all you're doing. You'll be ok with the 21" screen...until you use the 27" model for an extended period of time. I used the 27" a lot in college. I got accustom to having espn in one corner, word in the other, research in the middle, random web pages open, and still having screen space to spare. It made going back to my MBP a pain.

Got a 2009 15 in MBP still runs good, but scared of it croaking from age, you guys think I should do the SSD upgrade or just wait till it croaks and cop a new one? I hear the SSD upgrades make older macs run like brand new, like I said my joint still runs like butter and I have 8gb ram in it, but with it being a Core 2 Duo I know its only a matter of time when apple stops doing updates

I got it worst, I got the late 08 unibody with a maxed out at the time 4gigs of ram and 2.8 ghz core 2 duo. I feel the same. I'm just hoping that it lasts until next fall. The lack of ram causes issues a lot, but I want to get done with grad school and get those bills out of the way before I think of upgrading.

Was at bestbuy and the Mac Pro and air had 100 dollars off and 150 if you're a student off. Good deal?

Yeah, you'll rarely see a $250 discount like that. Hop on it if you need a new laptop.

Apple refurbs are also a good, less expensive option since they refurb it to factory spec, and still give you a 1 year standard warranty.

Some of y'all need to clean your docks and menu bars,. Here's mine...

MBP came in today. Loving it so far.

Bruh, that dock

Info on the WP though?

21inch is good. But that 27 is a monster. Personally, I would have gone with the 27, but honestly at the end of the day, specs and numbers don't mean jack ****. You got the one you were most comfortable with. If in these 14 days you feel you want the larger display, then swap it out.

I would have gotten 16gb of ram though.. But then again, I do more on my computer than you do.

Bought a new MacBook Air 11in for 650 plus tax. But I also applied for the BBuy credit card simi only have to pay like 60 something a month interest free.

Deciding between a refurbished 2013, or a new Mabook air? Thoughts?
Both come with a one-year warranty. Depends on the prices you can get for the refurbs. BestBuy is currently having a sale on laptops, which you can combine with the student discount (if you have access to a .edu email address) here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Global/...id=pcmcat276200050000&ref=199&loc=BHGfseUWtPc

A MBA refresh should be coming this year though, rumored to be a 12 inch, retina version.

SSD may be the best option with prices continuing to decrease. Up the RAM like the poster above said, if the pricing isn't too bad.

Any Yosemite early adopters? I've gotten my handoff working well with the sms (what I mainly needed) however I haven't really been able to make the calling or email hand off work.
