I haven't had any problems at all on Yosemite. Aside from a few Chrome processes incorrectly reporting as not responding in Activity Monitor.

Of course you're gonna see more people reporting issues than successes. Nobody is gonna rush to make a forum post saying "Yosemite works great!".

Mine died yesterday. Apple offered to fix it in house for $500 ish or send it off for a depot repair for $310. I opted for the depot repair but when I brought up Apple knowing about the bad graphics cards they waived the fee. There is a huge thread on the support site. I hope they can't fix it and just give me a new or refurb retina display.
 
I have a mid 2012 MBP that was the fully upgraded model at the time and mine is running Yosemite perfectly fine. :smokin

The 21.5 500gb good
Or should I go with the next model up
I'm only using it for normal computer use
my girl probably save pictures and surf the internet
Kids prolly play Disney .com games
Me prolly surf nt and save sync all,our music and stuff
So no hardcore stuff
I just hear it's basically a MacBook Air in a desktop
Advice is appreciated
And I'm ain't got money to buy a souped up iMac but I can spend around 12-1300 if needed

If you're only using it for normal use, yeah it should be ok, maybe bump up the RAM. (just looked online looks like you can only get it with 8GB)

Honestly for the use you're describing you might be better off just getting a Mac Mini and getting a display from some other source.

The HDD that comes with the 21.5 base model is kind of lightweight, I know everyone is moving towards keeping things in the cloud, but I know that I'm a digital packrat and couldn't rock with anything under a TB especially since it's using traditional HDD and not a SSD.

Also if anyone in your household is in school, get it via educational pricing.

Thanks for responding to his post. I'm in the same boat as he is. I still haven't decided on which one to purchase on Black Friday. I'm leaning towards the base model.

No problem, while I've never officially sold Apple products, god knows I helped them move quite a bit through my circle of friends/family from the early 00s on.


My thing has been to actually listen to what people say they need and not oversell them. Nothing worse than having someone gripe about spending too much on more computer than they need.

It's why I've only owned 1 PowerMac and even it came about 2 weeks before the Intel announcement (at a cost of 2 six packs)

If you're realistic about your needs there's usually no need to go out and spend 4K+ on something that you're not going to push to the limit.

Once upon a time I was a power user that did a lot of video work and needed mobility so I'd go for PowerBook and MBP, now, not so much, my next purchase will either be an Air or a Mini or both if I can swing the right sale.

Just made the switch from pc to a macbook pro. So far I like it anyone have any suggestions for must have apps, I'm not doing anything to crazy just internet,music,social media stuff, mail, etc.

bro hds are old now. if you really think a company like apple is going to make an os based around an outdated hd then your confused.

theres always going to be better techs out there and things are going to get outdated. not to mention hds are so much more prone to going bad

ex. bad sectors, unable to find bootable volumes, etc.

pretty sure none of the new macs even come with a hd anymore.
 
You're wrong, there's a lot of reasons that macs still come with HDD, most notably people's need for massive amounts of storage. On my next Mac I want to get an SSD for the bootable volume, but for all of my storage needs HDDs is still the way to go, there still isn't an economical solution for people needing more than 1TB of storage out there, and I like having my stuff available in hand and not just stored in the cloud.

Use an external HDD then, problem solved. Technology changes fast, 1tb SSDs will be affordable very soon.
 
i was a pc user for almost 15 years growing up... made the switch to a base level 2013 macbook air back in august, and i will never go back. this laptop does everything i need it to do, and makes everything just that much easier. battery life is amazing!

consider looking for deals on refurb or last years models if you're interested in saving a bit of money. i can't imagine that i would be doing anything that pushes this machine to its limits anytime soon.
 
I might have to go back to Windows. The 15" stock MBP is just too damn expensive now. I might have to bite that 13" bullet even though I think they're tiny.

*edit* I got my Macbook back from Apple today. The logic board was replaced. It's working good today. If it fails again I hope it does it again within the 90 days.
