The Official Mac Thread (Docs, Themes, Apps, Etc.)

loving my new rMBP...it's truly amazing.

this might be the OCD in me but is there a way to clean up the trackpad? I can see the "smooth" part on the trackpad. I'm assuming it's from the oils from fingers.

A qtip lightly dipped in iklear is my suggestion. It's super sensitive area I gotten it replaced twice now, just wiping it with a microfiber cloth and water getting in the corners or pushing down too hard cleaning it.

^Diablo 3 is the only game I got on here. My late 08 couldn't run it without freezing. My retina can run it on max settings.

I played some free-trial they had for diablo... i could not get into it... i'd imagine it picks up a lot from there though i guess.

Any other games out?

I used to run warcraft 3 on my old mac years ago.... I guess there nothing new comparable to it?

PYOP bundle. $15 or more gets you all the games I believe. Hitman GO is only available on android, not sure if all the other games are available on Mac.

My Mbp just stopped working on me. Won't load up in safe mode. Trying to boot it from my external hard drive right now, no idea what the heck happened.

Won't boot at all, looks like I'll be going to the Apple store tomorrow. -_-
I dont think you can boot it off your external hard drive if it doesnt have the OS on there.

What screen shows up? flashing folder with a "?" mark? If so it looks like a hard drive cable/ribbon/bracket whatever you wanna call it.

if its something else then it might be the hard drive or a corrupted OS.

My backup was on my external hard drive so that's why I tried that. When I start it the progress bar loads with the Apple logo, it finishes loading then the grey screen doesn't go away my login page doesn't appear. Sitting at the genius bar right now waiting for the tech to come out.

Well looks like it was the logic board even though when they ran the diagnostic everything passed. No surprise there. $310 later it better last me another 2 years. I never had an issue with it until after I got the battery replaced in Dec. Wonder if the tech messed with something or maybe it's something in Yosemite that messed up the system.

$310 aint to bad i guess.
I got a Late 2011 and always hear about the logic boards going out. I dont want to buy another computer though because this beast still runs great

If you're computer is oslder than 2012 probably a bad move.
I have a 2009 iMac and Yosemite runs just fine.
I still haven't upgraded to Yosemite. Is it worth it ?
It really is up to you. Mavericks was pretty good and didn't have a lot of problems.

One thing that people brought up about Yosemite, was that the fonts and the UI was designed spefically for a retina display...But there are options to disable the blurry fonts.

Hey guys if you suffered or are suffering from the death throws of your GPU Apple is finally acknowledging the problem and fixing things out of warranty

http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

I know my gpu is busted because I get a scrambled screen most of the times I watch a video or minimize a browser but it passes the diagnostics. Smh I need them to fix it for me but I'll see if it still happens when I get it back with my new logic board. Has anyone here had their logic board replaced? How long has it lasted after replacement?

It sucks not having a computer. :frown:

Thankfully I had an old 2009 MacBook to fall back on. I know they're going to hit me for a replacement drive when I bring in my MBP under this new extended warranty for the problem though, I took out my 2011 MBP hdd to get all the files I needed from it, and I really don't feel like putting it in and being without my files for however long it takes them to fix my issues. Probably just going to chalk it up and pay them, unless I get there and they tell me it's like 300 for a $90 drive.

If you're computer is older than 2012 probably a bad move.

My 2011 mbp slowed down considerably because of it. Hardware just wasn't strong enough.
I'm running Yosemite on my Early 2011 MBP and its running fine for me. I did upgrade my RAM and installed a SSD though prior to upgrading the OS

Yea you can't boot off an external. A backup just has data on it, not a operating system. good luck with your mac man. Sounds like a hard drive or hard drive cable problem tho.

Thanks, I'll find out when I get it back from them if it really was the logic board or not. I didn't have a blinking folder on startup but that might not be the only symptom. Hopefully I'm not paying $310 for nothing.

^why not just back up the files on an external drive?

Don't have a spare 750 drive hanging around. They tossed my Original drive back in and shipped it out today, price FREE. Guess I have to do surgery and swap out the SuperDrive myself to add a new drive.

Nice! Got my laptop back today and so far so good.

Edit: This is still happening >:

I'm assuming it won't be covered for the repair extension program since it's not a "video issue" even though when I start up vlc sometimes I get the same scramble for the windows behind VLC.

Tried the PRAM reset and still nothing. And my screen turns blue now every time I open photoshop. WTHHHHH
