People in here really getting rid of their 2011 MBP's. How much are you guys spending on another laptop? Is buying refurbished from apple recommended?
I still have my Early 2011 13" MBP and it's been great to me. I think all the 2011 13" models didn't have that logic board issue

The 13" didn't have the issues, because it was using an integrated Intel graphics chip, those run pretty cool. The 15" had dual GPU with the intel for low power/light lifting and the troublesome AMD Radeon with pretty light soldering as the heavy lifter.

I've had my MBP back for a few days now and it's been pretty solid. No issues popping up. I don't know if I mentioned this but they even swapped out my top case when it went in for service, I didn't expect or ask them to do that since it was a cosmetic issue, with a tiny dent.

I've seen them around 300 or so. How much Ram is in there?
Just 4GB

Not really trying to start a new life with the money just rather it not be around taking up space

That 2011 is messed up. Just decided to get a new one instead of paying to fix it and then possibly running into the same issues in the near future.

I paid full price on the apple store for a new 15" but I was looking at refurbished ones too. Most people seem to be satisfied with them.

How much did you drop on the new one? Specs?

With the student discount that was around $200 off it came close to $3k. $2993 after tax to be exact.

I upgraded to 1TB storage but everything else is stock

As much as I want a new MBP right now I can't justify the price tag. Having dropped $2600 on this one in 2011 I'm hoping I'll get another 2 years out of it. Is there a huge difference between the 2.2GHz and 2.5GHz? Let's say both had 16GB RAM and 1TB flash storage. Why hasn't apple provided SSD's yet :smh:

New MacBook Air just introduced. Looks nice.

Thinner than ever, new battery, Retina display, no fan so it runs silent, 67% smaller logic board.

if it's under 2LBs I do believe that means you can use this device during take off without putting it away....

Knew I should have waited. :pimp: :pimp: but right now it's a dilemma between the grey or gold

Hmm 9 hrs web 10 hrs vid apple says which means 7-8 in real life. That retina is a battery drainer for sure. Liking the choice of colors though. Not likin the one port for everything though. Im waiting for apple to announce a expanded port dock or usb hub just for this lol. Thin and light is nice n everything to a certain point but damn are features being expended for the sake of ultraportability.

You guys gonna be ok with just ONE USB port? I feel like the point of a laptop these days is for portability AND versatility. Removing all that connectivity make it feel like an iPad with a keyboard.

Yeah the more i look at it this new macbook is basically just a trophy for apple to showoff how thin and light their product can be besting all competition. Stickin with the air and pro n hoping the colors extend their since the new trackpad is hitting the pro line.

EDIT: Dell must be so relieved that apple is still a fan of bezels. Apple should have made it an infinity display. That retina would have popped even more. :wow:

That new Macbook looks awesome. I'm good with my Mid-2013 Air though. A couple more USB/Thunderbolt ports, bigger SSD, bigger screen. Only thing lacking on mine is the RAM (4GB which is kinda ******, but oh well). I can do without the Retina display.

Mid 2010 mbp checking in.

Boot time is kinda slow since I put on Yosemite. But other than that. I'm good. I really want a used 17inch mbp.

The new MB looks super slick.. I'm torn between aesthetics and performance.

I'm an art director/designer and I use my work laptop for most of the heavy lifting but my personal MBP 2011 died last year and need a personal machine.

I'm almost certain that the new MacBooks can handle the workload but I see the stats of the MBP and they seem to be that much better.

Any other designers considering the new MB?

Nah, not at all. I would stick with the powerhouse of a MBP no matter what. It all just seems like gimmicks with that new MB.

Going to wait for the 15 Gold MBP.
They gotta throw in some more USB slots though.
That one port for everything gimmick is just another ploy to buy more accessories and adaptors.

That space grey pro :smokin
That 12 inch screen :x will wait for something bigger

Gold is straight ugly fams, worst color for ipad, iPhone now macbook
