The Official Mac Thread (Docs, Themes, Apps, Etc.)

I would cop a current gen once they go on clearence for the new joints, but my 09 15 in is still running like a champ.

Anyone having issues when trying to watch redbox movies on a mbp? It seems like most of the newer movies won't play at. They play fine on my ps3 but not on my mbp...its just redbox dvds though cause my store bought ones work fine as well

Anyone else experiencing this :nerd:

Nice! I have the 1st gen 27-inch iMac and plan on upping the ram to 16gbs so it could last me another 10 years.

This might be the wrong thread as I swear there was another Mac thread, but oh well.

Does anyone have the retina display? The 15" is amazing but that price rag is not. I'm thinking about going for the 13"

I had the regular 13" macbook pro, but it got stolen.
So i bought the 13" Retine Macbook Pro, screen is definitaly better then the non retina version. And the fact that is a pound lighter makes a whole lot of difference carrying this thing around.
The SSD is quick as hell, no regrets what so ever

Been detached from the internet for the past month or so....

I'm looking to buy a new Mac Pro.... have the spring upgrades already taken place or should I wait before purchasing... looking to get the 15 inch retina with all upgrades.

Thx fellas

Wait it out. Apples WWDC is tomorrow where they'll show iOS 7 and OSX 10.9 with supposedly new mac pros.

What's a good price for an '08 MacBook? I know they're pretty dated but I love the simple glossy white design. Besides, I'm only gonna be using it to surf the web, listen to music, and watch movies. I'm sure any processor is good enough to do that. I'm thinking at most I'll have to upgrade the RAM. I'm seeing some 15 inch versions for around $350 on Craigslist, is that reasonable? Also is there a battery issue with these? I had a '10 MBP that lasted for 15 mins when it wasn't plugged in. Thanks for any help :nerd:.

About 2 years ago I bought a '06 macbook for $200 (The girl just wanted to get rid of it). I upgraded the ram, hard drive, and OS for like $60-80 bucks and it worked fine for all those things you want to do. I would still have it now, if best buy didn't give me so much to trade it in. $350 doesn't sound to bad to me if I was going to get one. The battery will likely need to be replaced from that year, so take that into account. Idk if that model has all the touchpad gestures that make OS X so great so you may decide to purchase a touchpad too.

YO!

So for some reason, when flip open my Macbook Air from sleep mode it turns on, then the screen turns black and then black to normal. Anybody have any experiences with this and cures? I read that if you go to energy saver in your preferences and change your computer sleep and display sleep times then it would help but I don't know what time to change both to or if thats even the way you fix it. Its not a big issue but kind of annoying at times. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

try SMC or PRAM reset

SMC:

Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

PRAM

Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

If I were to purchase a brand new retina pro that was purchased in march on ebay would I be able to take it into the apple store to add an extended warranty?

NTMACFAMB

my itunes has been trippin. when i connect to update my music on my phone and everthing else...

it gets to the last stage and the "waiting to apply changes" just stays going.. not updating...

any solutions?

Thanks in advance

Yo! If I want to delete some of the song files from my downloads, itunes will still play them? I remember doing this in the past and getting a "file not found" thing when I would play a song but i've deleted a few and this hasn't happened.

Homies, my MBP retina just fell from my bed. The sd card is jammed in the slot and won't start up now. I have 25 days left on the applecare. I set up an appointment with them for tomorrow but i'm wondering... How can i get them to replace it completely ?

The entire macbook? Does it have the screen "burn in" problem? If so just emphasis that as well because they can't replace just the screen, they'd have to swap the mbp.

Are there signs it was dropped? Applecare doesn't cover accidental damage so in all likelihood they'll give you a price to fix it.

foolishness  they can replace the screen on those easily, they actually replace the whole top lid.

no chance at getting the jammed SD card replaced free unless you get a really nice genius. applecare doesnt cover accidental damage, just manufacturers defects. if i had to guess i'd say you're looking at like 280-350 to get it replaced. if they quote you more than that in store, ask them to send it to depot.

no signs of drop damage. I'm just going to tell them that i put the mbp in my bag and the sd card came out jammed in there. Is that valid?

Thanks for the prompt responses.
