The Official Mac Thread (Docs, Themes, Apps, Etc.)

My brothers macbook screen is basically pitch black. The only way you can see anything is if you hold a light up to it. How much does something like that cost to fix?

Hey NT

So I noticed that on the memory on my new MacBook Air in OTHER, it's already 9gb there.

This is a recent exchange due to a faulty trackpad.

The other machine wasn't like that. I am sure it has something to due with the mails being carried over, or trashed items or some backup file pulled from the cloud. I added something called omnidisk sweeper to see what takes up space on the machine but I have no clue what's right and wrong to remove you know?

I made a GB appointment for Monday after work, I don't want to bother with them honestly. I am sure they can solve my issue, but i was wondering if someone can tell me what I need to remove.

Thanks.

PM me if you are willing to help a sista out via iMessage or something, or on here.

Thanks and Peace NT Mac Fam.

 I have the 2008 Black macbook and its starting to take a dump on me

man this thing held up like a BEAST, i dropped it a few times, hit the screen a few times on doors, dropped it from my truck, and after all this time it's starting to cause a few problems

The biggest problem i'm having right now is the screen dimming and not wanting to come back on for a few tries...I'm hoping it lasts until OS 11 or whatever it will be drops..

highly recommend getting a Solid State Drive for those with older MB/MBP
Samsung EVO 840 Series :pimp:

I updated the ram on my late 11' MPB and it feels like a new computer. Going from 4GB to 8GB has stopped the beach balls so far.

Yeah I returned the ram and got a working one. The difference is great. Might replace the optical drive with a SSD once the apple care runs out

So now that retina displays, SSDs, USB3.0 are all out, what's the next new tech advancement on the horizon that's worth waiting for?

maxed out my 2011 with 16GB RAM. Well worth it since i had to finally upgrade to Mavericks..... Think i was one of the few that was happy with Mountain Lion

Yeah, I'm starting to experience issues with my late-2008 Macbook Pro. Along with it being slow when it comes to links loading, odd things are happening now. The main thing, if I step away from my desk for a while and return, when I get it out of sleep mode I can't type anything or move around the sensor mouse pad. It gets annoying because I'll have to restart my computer, and sometimes I'll have important work not finished that I have to save before doing that.

New Intel processors. There is a rumor that not the next new architecture, but the one that it supposed to come out late 2015/mid2016 is supposed to have about 24hour battery life. But in terms of raw power, I just don't see anything new. I wouldn't doubt if they have some sort of fingerprint reader added sooner or later just like the iPhone.

I have the first batch of unibody 15 inch Macbook Pro late 2008 myself. I don't have that, but I do have an issue with a script dying on me and firefox won't work no matter what I do. So I have to reboot totally. I feel that I need a new laptop but I'm going to hold off until I graduate or a little after I graduate from grad school. I want like a really big revamp. My decision though is whether to stick to the 15inch pro or to get the air. I love the air because of the portability, but the screen real estate space is going to be hard to give up.
