I was at a studio one time with freeway and he had his sp piece and I remember it looked a lot smaller then it did on TV. But it was still hella clean

The westie Chain Story

I wanted a custom chain. Jewelers were tryna front on me. Once they know you know anything about jewelry, they don't want to work with you in the diamond district. They would prefer to sell **** for 2x its value to Canadian tourists. My homegirl is real tight with 3d **** and so I asked for her help.  She recommended 3d printing it and said she could do it way cheaper that way. Originally I was gonna go with shapeways, but she actually figured out that if you take the wax to the casting place yourself you can save almost half price. So she made an STL file and created a wax based off of that.

Wax

She made one with an integrated bail and one with a ring for a bail to be placed in as an interlocking piece. The wax was around $15 per to print. The ring was too fragile and it broke off the wax before I even got it to casting.

Chain

I went with a machine made 2mm ball chain, 22 inches. I bought it from TraxNYC which is the only jewelry store I feel comfortable recommending after that experience. They were cool and quoted me a reasonable price to cast my piece. Said around $400 to $500 to do it, which is fair. Chain was 6 grams, 14k and $230.

Casting

So, I took the wax to the casting place, Carerra casting in the diamond district. I got it 14K yellow gold. These guys are interesting. You drop the wax off and if it's your first time, all you need to do is sign some random forms that say "I will not engage in money laundering." No receipts, no paperwork. They just remember who you are. The guy tells me to come back the next day around 2:30. Believe it or not, they got it back to me the next day at 2:30 and they remembered who I was. COD. Total price for 7.02 dwt (10.9 grams) was  $307.

Finishing

They do not do finishing at Carrera, so I headed over to Golden Touch, which the homie at Carrera recommended. All Carrera does is (barely) cut off the sprues). Golden Touch gave me an estimate of the next day. Real crazy factory type environment on the 7th floor of a building in the diamond district. Charged me $35 to finish it. I spent 80 bucks today sending an UberRUSH guy over to pick it up, and they weren't ready at 11 am like they said they would be and the courier had to wait. Looks like they kinda did a rush job. I see a lot of things I will do better next time, but overall I was happy with the piece and how it came out. Total cost of the piece including the chain was a little less than $600. Not bad huh?

wow I wrote a really long post with good pictures and
how much would something like that cost to do to a coin? I have a coin my dad gave my daughter I wouldn't mind throwing a bezel on
dunno about the diamond bezel (no idea how to price diamonds) but the 14k bezel i got for a 1oz gold eagle was ~350

btw i wrote up a long and informative post about making custom jewels but the ****** site said it had to go through moderator approval because it has offsite image links. can someone please help ?

definitely. no question that they would have charged me out the ***.

when i tried to buy my coin pendant, i went to rafaello then avianne. rafaello wanted $4000 for a 1oz pamp bar, would not budge. avianne wanted 3300 for a 1oz krugerrand. i bought from apmex for $1600.

I dont trust these jewelers they are on some ********. do the **** from scratch. i did that post to break the game down and hopefully inspire someone to do it themselves.

how do i embed images from imgur? i feel that post would be a lot better with embeds.
