**..:The Official Jewelry Thread Vol. 11: You get a Jesus piece! You get a Jesus piece! Everybody gets a Jesus piece:..**

word? what about it looks off to you? tell me what could be done better for next time.

Is that what you were envisioning? Maybe this is a logo that I'm not familiar with?

Appreciate hearing about the process, just not sure how the process would play out with something that actually looks nice and has detail

Yeah it is a logo. Besides some finishing details it came out exactly how I envisioned. Once I figure out how to embed pics I will show you how it matches up exactly.

The process I laid out is the exact one that your jeweler uses to make custom pieces, so I really meant to empower people on here to make their own custom golds without a jeweler or even shapeways

Yes and no... and some missing in between. A for effort though!

Thanks man.
What parts did I skip?
If I gave away the tips and tricks of how we do things, I wouldn't have a job haha

Nah now I think you're *******tting. Nothing new under the sun.

If there's something you can do that the others can't, give me the gist. Enough that yore not giving away trade secrets but I know it's not Ben Baller level *******t.

Lol ok... Maybe one of my pals at Icebox will chime in and tell you that I am not bs'ing you. People who have been doing this for 25+ years don't just tell you what to do.

I will tell you that the reason you have all those horizontal casting marks is because you used a growing machine and the marks should have been removed from the wax before casting.

Yes. I didn't think it was gonna be visible after polishing. Next one I'm going tosand the wax first.

That's the thing.... there's no easy way to go about learning to do jewelry making and gold smithing. It takes years and years of trial and error to do it yourself. Yes you can outsource to a bunch of random people and have them just do the job but it takes experience to know what to do and how to do it. My head gold smith has been doing his job since he was 13 and is still learning every day. Innovating every day. There's no instruction manual, it all comes from hands-on experience.

Last I checked, lost wax casting is thousands of years old.

*sigh*

The first step at learning and improving on something is accepting the fact that there are things that you don't know.
I very much accept that, but at the same time, I reject the concept that there are industry secrets that only certain jewelry houses know. That is the juug play that I didn't like.

I am planning on making at least two more of that piece. Give me your email and I'll send you a file. Send me back an estimate and I'll give you a shot at it. Then I'll post the results here. Sound good?

In every trade, especially skill trades, there are practices and methods that are kept as secrets. It's not a game, it's not BS, it's fact. Hence why middle of the mall jewelry is in a different league than high end jewelry.

My email is below.

I'm pretty lucky that my good friend is a jeweler and don't really charge me for labor
