My-T.

I can go back as far as africa bambatta, sugar hill, double trouble, kurtis blow, into the 80's. but when the 90's dropped the hip hop was insane aswell. the early to mid 1990's gave us great fashion, kicks, and banging hiphop. it was probably the last time we heard good hip hop. from the likes ofd.i.t.c, helta skelta, o.c , tribe, atifacts, , etc etc. forget it i can go on, but i have to give thanks to MYTSHARP for bringing back good memories. thanksbro. this video is so dope and the song is insane....... the beat..............timeless.

p.s...............listening to this and rocking polo...........niiiiiiiice lol

Wow..thats some real hip hop right there..good looking on the video...Shouts to Dirty Jerz..lol..Newark is so Grimey..

As much as I flex on your hairline, I'ma need you to go ahead and make a 90's mix for errbody. Seein' that video make me wanna clear out thegarage and try to cook up a time machine, word to Doc.

I'm out to bomb like Vietnam under the same name Tame One
The bad one, ink flow master bastard with the Magnum
I tags up quick, and then I steps to the exit
When it's time to get ses-ed , or flex on some fresh *$$%
Some wack crook stole my black book I know who took it
I know his whole tag because the @*! writes his name crooked
The ink I use might stink, but you gotta think
I got my props Hopps, cause my tags don't shrink
I'm taggin and baggin %#%@*$# cause my name, is famous in the street
Cause they know my name's from cruising in the Jeeps
So yo, grab a can and put your man up and stand up
For the fresh never stale +#!*+* off the third rail
Deep dark and black like the Magnum I pack
It's that Artifacts chat from the wrong side of the track

Watch the 3rd rail, cause I don't wanna get zapped.

Its crazy how much our artform fell off. Hearing that joint can immediately flash me back to sitting in front of the Zenith watching Rap City.

Too much fronting and filler s_ nowadays.

What happened to them powerful mid 90's horns too?

Retro that s_.

I'm sorry but i absolutely have to bring this up...Are you guys just unaware of the amount of good hip hop thats out there? I'm not singling you twoout, because I've heard statements like yours hundreds of times and usually i just let it slide but i gotta ask this time...I feel like 90% of the dudeswho can appreciate music like this are oblivious to the good music that is currently being released. Is the only modern day hip hop you're aware of Kanyeand Wayne? There's so much great hip hop being made today that is just going unnoticed...just because it doesn't get radio play or air time on MTVdoesn't mean its not around...Yes corporate millionaires bastardized our art form. I couldn't tell you what the number one hip hop albums is this year,or even T Pains latest single but im more than aware of the good releases that aren't mainstream. I just get the feeling like so many of you have abandonedhip hop as a whole because of the commercial *%$+ thats shoved down your throats everyday, honestly it makes me sad

agreed but some of us love RAP more than HIP HOP.
and you also have to realize that that track had push from its label, it was on the radio, had a video, was on tv.
today our pop rappers are buying beats(sometimes hooks too) and trying their best to not ruin them (Jeezy)

True story.

Back then there was a decent balance between mainstream and underground music.

Yeah there is a lot of great Hip-Hop still being made and I tell people that all the time.

But you can't even compare the quality of music between that generation of Hip-Hop and today.

There were multiple classics being released in the same weeks. Throwaway lyricism that wipes the floor with the best s_ out today.

Loud Records dropping hits left and right. Kool G, Beatnuts, an army of Queens bridge MCs, whole clicks of THORO MCs, thriving West Coast and Southernlyricism, real ecclectic rap that wasn't forced, Das EFX pushing limits, Jeru blending genres and styles, Geto Boys, Rap-a-Lot, Kast changin the game,G-Funk, Pharcyde, DITC, Black Sheep, EPMD, Muddy Waters, Illmatic, Duck Down, XZIbit, Rass, Death Row, Ready To Die, Reasonable Doubt being overlooked becauseso much other wild s_ was out....

New school cats like Blu and Buddens wouldn't even be close to standouts in 95 because every one was pumpin out heartfelt, competetion fueled greatness.

No matter what you say...it ain't the same. Hip-Hop fell off. A new heartbeat is starting to emerge but that s_ can be aborted or fade away at any moment.

I wont say i "own" records from every artist you mentioned because i dont own a physical copy that i paid for but i do have albums on my laptop fromevery single one of those artist with exception to Diggin In the Crates Crew and Blacksheep. I'm aware of what was being released then and the number ofclassic albums that were put out...However, i dont believe in comparing artist from different time frames like that, saying rapper "x" wouldn'thave been as successful as rapper "y" is trivial and fruitless.

I do 100% agree with you that hip hop is not the same, but what do you guys expect. There isn't a SINGLE genre in music in which the sound remained thesame over a time period of 20+ years. Mainstream hip-hop didn't fall off, it was assassinated. There are underground albums that have come out this decadeequally as filled with talent and musical greatness as the guys you mentioned. I'm willing to bet that a good number of these albums the majority of youhaven't even heard. Obviously said classic albums aren't as plentiful as they were in the early 90's but there are number of factors that play intothat. A huge one being the death of the mainstream. As far as lyricism, i'd be willing to go track for track, album for album, comparing 90's albumsagainst todays quality albums to see if the guys you mentioned really would "Sweep the floor" with todays best because imo that's just false.

Hip-Hop as a whole certainly fell off, but to blatantly say it died, or that even the best today don't make music enriched with the same quality as itspredecessors is bogus.

Out of curiosity I'd love to see your top ten albums of 2008, just to see what your listening too...If you've heard what imo truly is the best stuffbeing put out today and you passed your judgement then fair enough, your comments are warranted, but i know from experience through conversations similar tothis in the past that 9/10 people despite what they may claim really aren't in touch with the underground at all.

I'm not talking about our pop rappers. I'm not talking Jeezy, Kanye, TIP, etc

this is what makes me question what current stuff have you guys listened to.

My brother put me on to these dudes, (I'm only 19) and they are ill. It is sad that hip-hop has become more about money than skill.
