Adidas brings back T-Mac

The Philippine Star 08/16/2006

Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady will visit the Philippines anew later this month as part of a four-city Asian tour to touch base with NBA fans and build on the expanding passion for basketball in this part of the world.

While here, McGrady, known all over the world as T-Mac, will also launch an all-white limited edition of his first adidas signature shoe, the groundbreaking T-Mac 1.

"This marks my third trip to Asia, and I continue to look forward to these trips every year," McGrady said through a publicity agent. "Over the last couple of years I have continued to gain great respect and love for everyone in Asia. I appreciate all my fans have done for me on these tours and look forward to meeting more of them this year and thanking them for their support."

Aside from Manila, McGrady will also visit Seoul, Guangzhou and Hong Kong to build on the growing groundswell of popularity for the NBA.

A shooting guard and small forward for the Rockets, McGrady will arrive on Aug. 28 and will interact with fans at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia at 5 p.m.

The next day, he will visit the Ayala Malls Glorietta at 11 a.m. He will spice his visit here by participating in community events, basketball clinics, celebrity all-star games and visits to national landmarks.

McGrady will also tell the story of how Impossible is Nothing has been more than a tagline in his life, but an ethos that has driven him to success.

The Limited Edition Pure White T-Mac 1 will be available in the Philippines starting Aug. 21 at adidas concept stores at Glorietta, Rockwell, Tobys Mall of Asia and at the SM Mall of Asia. The T-Mac range is another example of an innovative sporting product created by adidas in collaboration with a successful athlete.

McGrady is just one of star athletes who have endorsed adidas over the past 50 years. Among others who have also worn the adidas brand are NBA legends Jerry West, Oscar Robertson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, as well as McGradys fellow NBA stars Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett.

The original T-Mac shoe was launched in 2000, and the latest edition is set to further push the boundaries of conventional basketball footwear by bringing together both proven adidas technology and performance components and revolutionary design elements. The original was designed and engineered to T-Macs meticulous requirements, and the T-Mac 1 Limited Edition maintains this tradition.
