Matt Cassel has proven that Tom Brady is a product of a system

I knew I would see Craftsy21 in this topic, he is probably the biggest Patriots hater on nt and wouldn't miss the opportunity to criticize them

Joe Montana was a West Coast QB...does that make him any less great b/c Walsh picked a QB tailored to his system?

the system QB is the dumbest argument in sports

talk about a reach.

Anyways - I was gonna post something similar to this, asking if Brady is being proven to be a system product... i think it's a tough argument either way, but a helluva good question at this point.
Thanks.

Would Tom Brady be able to operate behind a !$##@* offensive line? I know he can win with no-name receivers, but his line has always looked pretty solid in New England. What about Peyton?

I think Brady's number 1 strength is his ability to stay composed in the pocket. He's so good at avoiding the rush and buying as much time as he can and finding someone. Like...Bledsoe used to get annihilated because he used to get happy feet and start throwing off his back foot when there was any pressure. When Bledsoe went down and Brady stepped in that was the number 1 noticeable difference between the two of them. Obviously there's only so much you can do and if the offensive line really sucks you're gonna get beat up regardless.

Good points. I know Peyton can get the happy feet sometimes, and Brady looked a little shaky at times during the SB last year, but he does stay more composedthan almost any QB I've ever seen.

I wonder if David Carr would have been an decent QB in the league if he wasn't running for his life for a couple years.

But what QB has ever been able to perform up to their capability with a !%+!## offensive line? Wouldn't that apply to every QB in the league? Some handle !%+!## OL's better than others but, like JD said, one of Brady's greatest skills is being composed in the pocket...even when the pressureis on, he will rarely make a costly mistake or try and force things...

peyton will get happy feet and rush the throw, brady is accustomed to having ample time to make the play, peyton hates getting hit, brady is tougher in thataspect as i feel he will stand in there a lil longer to make the play, when brady didn't have time (c superbowl), he fell apart ...

system qb, w/e you wanna call it, as much as i don't like brady ... he is the 2nd best qb in the game ... well when playing

Disagree.

Brady was clutch without all the weapons.
Brady got the weapons and then DESTROYED the league, had the best season EVER (stat-wise)
Cassel has the weapons and is getting by.

If Brady never went down this year, it would be tough to say that we would have still lost this many games. Maybe 1.

Dammit Chester, you had to bring this up

Yes, but Matt Cassel hadnt started a game at QB since his SENIOR YEAR of HIGH SCHOOL. you have to give him an adjustment period. But the team isputting up the same type of offensive numbers they did last year for the most part

fair enough. BUT... offensively we're not putting up the same numbers. we've done it two games in a row, and everyone is now acting likecassel in on a 30 td, 4000 yard pace...

also, maybe matt cassel is actually a good QB. he has been learning from brady for a while now. im just throwing it out there...

also, the pats' "system" has only been in place for 1.5 seasons...what about 2001-2006?

I've noticed that, too.

Word to the moron who said that because of the recent performances, Tom Brady is now the most overrated QB of all time or w/e $++%*+%$ he came up with...Ididn't even bother responding, Brady must have !%@*** his sister or something...

So the Patriots used to have a (at the time) great QB in Bledsoe.

He got hurt, and in came a not really paid attention too Tom Brady. He struggled very early on as Bill pulled in the reins, even getting like 70 yards passingin a game. Over the course of the season, Brady grew from Bill's teaching and emerged as an all timer.

Now Brady is hurt and in comes a not really paid attention too Matt Cassell. He struggled very early on as Bill pulled in the reins getting killed by thelowly dolphins. over the course of the season, Matt has grown from Bill's teaching and emerged as a very solid QB at this time.

But i suppose, none of this just happens to be coincidence, right?

Now if anyone is thinking that I am bashing or making fun of Tom Brady, get a life. I happen to think he is one of the greatest i have ever seen. But it doesshow quite a lot about Bill belicheater. Cheating or not, the guy can coach a QB.

Read this twice if you are unsure about what I am saying, don't start yelling for no reason.

He is not turning ANY franchise around.
brady wasn't that great statistically in his first yr as a starter. sure he didn't have moss, but he had a better running game anddefense. cassell has better receivers, but the D isn't as dominant as it once was, nor is the running game.

brady benefited a lot. but as you can see, cassell has stepped in nicely. the team has now given him the freedom to be a free QB now that he has had more thanhalf a season under his belt. like i said, people thought brady was the engine behind those super bowls, but now we gotta give props to bellichick.

Question is, how is Brady going to be coming back from that massive knee injury.

being a system qb to me is a good qb...matts a good qb because hes taken good notes from brady and coach...shoot id die for a system qb on the niners

There's a decent chance Cassel will be on the Niners next year.

They were talking about trading Brady on the radio this morning because of his bad knees and just keeping Cassell... better to get rid of a player a year toearly than a year too late...
