Ayo....Since the birth of Hip-Hop in the 1970's, Urban Youth have been changing the world through genius forms of unique self-expression. Collectively up heaving cultural norms at lightspeed (Pat yourselves on the back)...From the late 80's to the mid-90's, our brand of expression reached peaks that it may never see again. Street artists created living art galleries in abandoned lots, rambunctious youth wore their caps backwards and their jeans 4 sizes too big, Hip-Hop (and Rock) music changed the global cultural landscape...laying bare ourbrilliance, struggle and soul while forging a new lens with which to view human existence through.

Late 90's through the earliest years of the 21st century, over capitalization and commercialization of our culture began to dull its edge and someof the pent up dynamic energy of our lifestyle was drained, only to be converted into currency and stuffed into thesafes of media bigwigs.

But Pandora's box has been already opened and an ideology based on efficient struggle, re-invention and dissidence...willalways find a way to regenerate and rejuvenate itself....

In my eyes...we seem to be in the formative years of a new golden age in street culture. The birth of a new era.

Funky, individualistic self-expression is back....Kid Cudi, Wale, Kanye, Pharell and Joe Budden are the spirtual successors ofDe La and A Tribe Called Quest. Kaws is a digital evolution of Keith Haring and the thousands of faceless graff artists of years past....and fashion is prettymuch a free for all, ranging from retro inspired outfits and Japanese denim to mix and match Rocker wear with European luxury brands. Its a newday.

So NT....post what you think is hot in the streets right now...Whats youthbased, urban insipired artists, musicians, clothing, books, DVDs, etc are moving you today?

Its our culture...lets keep molding it to reflect our interests.....
New West: Dom Kennedy
Jason Parham

Dom loves his city and the kids

EDITOR's NOTE: All this week, VIBE.com brings you profiles on a new class of L.A. emcees who are ready for their close up. Payattention!

Government Name: Dominic Kennedy
My L.A.: Leimert Park
Album/ Mixtape: The 25th Hour mixtape (March 2008)
Signed/ Unsigned: Unsigned
My Jam: "Still Lookin"

Dom Kennedy talks as if he has everything planned out. His life. His music career. And possibly even his death. His tattoo evenreads, "In loving memory of hip hop"-a metaphor for how he wants to leave his mark on the game. "That's how I live kind of, in memory,"he says eerily, eyes hidden under his gray Los Angeles Kings fitted. He looks up and continues, "When I die, all my music will go with me." His talkof death is symbolic of greater ambitions, though: Dom Kennedy, 24, wants his music to stand the test of time. "My stories are stories that we've alllived," he says. "Ten years from now a kid should be able to play my song and know exactly what I'm talking about."

i was bein serious

have you not ventured in the sneaker showcase high end clothing thread?
I wasn't questioning your seriousness homie....those brands are definitely hot out there right now....its just that you post something aboutLV or Gucci in every one of your NT posts.

Cats could be talking about Obama's latest speech and you come out of left field to point out that Barack had on a Louie cufflink.

I feel you though. Im waiting on 2 pairs on the Damier graphite kicks from my son as we speak.....but you do go hard for them two brands.

A lot conscious young rappers are starting to merge so I definitely appreciate that. As far as my fashion, I find myself now taking a more conservative route(with the exception of shoes) yet I still have many clothes that falls under "urban wear" which I will always probably have (I especially love theon-going evolution with streetwear labels [I know a lot of ya'll might disagree with me on that one]). But today's Hip Hop fashion is definitelyinfluencing my fashion sense (especially when it comes to mixing nike dunks with kenneth cole pea-coats
