Thank you sir for speaking the truth! Joey is a decent rapper but come on dude is overrated by a long shot!
lol dudes are honestly buggin if they think joey is overrated.....dude is top 5 in the game easy

In the mixtape game maybe. And this is from one of the 11 or so people that actually bought his first cd. Dude can't make another hot single let alone afull album to save his life.

1. I Got A Story To Tell
2. Da Art Of Storytellin pt 2, matter fact... all of them were
pimp.gif

3. N***as Bleed
4. Stan
5. The Coolest / The Cool
6. Meet The Parents

lol Jay and Em are both my favorite rappers but how can you say this after listening to the track....the story is amazing....but I guess just because its Em and Jay then Budden doesnt have a shot

Stan wins for me simply because it actually feels more like a song than the other two as it has a legitimate chorus that doesn't feel like an afterthought, and breaks up the monotony of someone spitting for 5 minutes without ceasing.
Meet the Parents is better than 3 sides to me because Hov's flow is better, and the production is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than on 3 sides.

QFT.

This is my first time hearing this Budden song. It's a cool song, but faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from being in the same category as Stan (same thing goes for Meet the Parents). I'd put Lost Boyz' "Renee" ahead of this. "Three Sides to a Story" sounds more like a rapper telling a story where as in the previous songs mentioned, the story is being told THROUGH a rapper.

Best story songs imo:

1) Notorious B.I.G "I Got a Story to Tell"

2a & 2b) Lupe Fiasco "The Cool"/"The Coolest"

3) Nas "Rewind"

4) Eminem "Stan"

5) Notorious B.I.G "N****s Bleed"

Honorable Mentions:

*Ghostface Killah "All That I Got Is You", Outkast "The Art of Storytelling Pt. 2", Slick Rick "Children's Story"*

How can you say that "three sides" sounds like hes telling a story when most of the track is in first person and he puts so much emotion into it...if anything meet the parents is a track that displays a rapper telling a story rather than the story being told through the rapper

Simple.

"Three Sides..." - The story is better than the storyteller.

"I Got a Story to Tell" - The storyteller is better than the story.

A good storyteller >>>>> A good story

you dont have to like joey as a rapper, but dude is not overrated. Sure hes hyped on NT, but aside from NT no one was hypin joey. And hes more than a decent rapper. Joey puts out better music than 99% of the garbage I hear on the radio or mixtapes nowadays.

I agree, your right he is very overrated on NT but not overall. Not to fond of the way he drags his words but I will not say joey gets busy on the mic! ButNs are reaching if they believe hes in the top 5 storytellers....

I never understood the appeal of Meet The Parents. I mean, I like the track a lot but when I think of the best storytelling songs this doesn't rank up atall. Something about it is just too simple and predictable, it lacks the wow factor that I get from the other mentioned tracks.

Anyway, Stan is probably the best track just because listening to that song can put you in a whole different world and zone.

Stan > 3 Sides > Undying Love> Meet The Parents.

I hate it when people diverge from the topic at hand so I apologize, but seriously...

DANCE WITH THE DEVIL-Immortal Technique

utterly destroys Three Sides, Stan, and Meet the Parents and I'm a huge Joey, Em, and Jay Fan

I have it as followed:

Meet The Parents
Three Sides
Stan (song never really did it for me, I respect it for what it is but that's where it stops. Far from my list of top storys)

And how does a post about stories go this long with no mention of "I Gave You Power" ???
smh.gif

I actually think that the reason why Dance with the Devil leaves an impression on the listener, is because it's well developed.

Shock value would be nonexistent if the song failed to build some sort of anticipation.

And lack of development=lack of anticipation

lol I got a little passionate there.

I dont know when i hear DWTD i just go oo cool drug dealer story a kid growing up wrong. nothing really happens
Then he has to rape someone (shock value numb 1) and its like yo whats going on?
then its his mom (shock value 2) and its like
sick.gif
sick.gif
sick.gif
then he was there with him (shock value 3) it's like watching a scary movie and %*%% just pops out.

Yeah, that song as well as "You never know"

But here on NT music if you mention Immortal Technique you get stonefaces thrown at you.

, but threads about wayne and gucci go for 10 pages.

True! Sad what people really think is talent now a days!

I feel ya, I think the songs follows a pretty standard way of telling a story so it seems pretty simple.

I guess the song just moves me more than the other 3, even though I can acknowledge that the others are more intricate.

A good storyteller >>>>> A good story

And what makes the story better than the story teller?? The lyrics were on point, it had good imagery, flowed on beat, great emotion....if em or jay or biggiemade this same exact track then it would be the illest track ever

hmmm...not sure where it would rank amongst those mentioned, but definately a great story track.

I'm not much of a nas fan but Rewind is the best story ever told period. The detail and consistency in the story is crazy if he would have spit it regularbut for Christ sake the man spit it backwards, words and all

Out of the 3, Meet the Parents is the weakest

I'd say...

1) Stan
2) 3 Sides
3) Meet the Parents

I give the W to Em because ALL his songs are like mini movies, very vivid

Rabbit Run
8mile Road
Yellow Brick Road
Mushrooms
Kim
Guilty Conscience
Lose Yourself
Brain Damage

and many more, I mean seriously, is this even a question?

Slick Rick was that dude too tho

I agree with HTG, cross out that blasphemy line though

you're 100% correct. I can't even @$%@ with Immortal Technique, he's just not my style but i'll be damned if i don't recognize his lyricalability. Dudes ability to tell a story is literally bar none.

Dudes on NT just smash on him though, probably don't even hear the words comin' out of his mouth

I completely agree with that statement, going beyond that simply turns into who prefers which story better, who prefers which rapper better, etc etc
