I know people love the Knicks, but why is the Garden really considered the "Mecca of basketball"

I mean they have only won two championships, as far as I know

Sure as hell not the mecca to me.......maybe the mecca of arrogance. I respect NY's historic prowess, but get off your high horse.

How old are you??? If you were old enough to remember the 1990's Knicks then you'd understand why.

Not to sound arrogant or anything, but If you understood what Mecca meant first you'd sort of get it, and in no way shape or form do i mean religious.Basketball is part of NY's culture's. It's been that way ever since anyone can remember. I'm not saying NY produces the best ball players, butNYC has arguably the most competition within itself. It's integrated into the whole perception of NY too.

A lot of history, including streeball history. Rucker Park is located in Harlem NY and we all know that some of the greatest street ball players came out orstepped into that court. I didn't even mention I.S.8, The Cage, Inwood and some others.

I don't wanna waste my entire useless night explaining...but it's not some sort of media creation. If u go through documentaries on the history ofbasketball...ny will be mentioned numerous times. Basketball is THE sport in ny. People are always playing at parks here, and just about anyone in ny knowsbasketball and has played. We're not producing the talents that we once did, but it's not about that. It's just about the significance basketballhas in ny, and the significance ny has on the basketball. And ny is home to many original pro basketball teams.

I know people will bring up a million other examples that I didn't think of.

Edit: my bad I thought u asked why NY is considered the Mecca of basketball. I'd consider nyc the "mecca of basketball" before I did the garden.

Oh these Knicks...

you set yourself up....

MSG has been home of so many great, historical events, how could it not be? If nothing else, the fact it was the site of Ali Frazier, the Fight of the Century, makes it "the Mecca"

Again, not just on the NBA level..

High school and college included, MSG has been the home to A LOT.

Why is it LeBron's favorite place to play?

Basketball as a whole....not just the NBA.

You can also say we have one of the most passionate crowds in the Garden too. There are a LOT of knowledgeable basketball fans in NY. When we see a smallmistake, we will call you on it. A lot of cities don't do that. NY has a real good sense of the game.

the same 1990s Knicks who were frequently owned by MJ? why do Knicks fans act like they weren't second fiddle in the NBA throughout the 90s?
i always see you dudes talking about "the 90s Knicks" as if they were some great dynasty with 10 championships. they had ZERO.
