here's the MAIN problem....

not enuff collabos...jay-z, Nas, 50 etc. don't show the up and coming ANY LOVE..its like uttering another rapper's name in a good light HURTS them inNYC.

collabs? not everyone wants to wants to hear these artist anymore. One of the problems in NY is the fact people are still depending on theseveterans to bring nyc to the golden era. It's not gonna happen with a mc who's pushing 40 and still thinks it's 1993. NYC is filled with greatartist on the underground scene but you got stations like hot 97 that will never support the underground or upcoming artist who actually have talnet. The DJSin the NY station circut have to go..it's plain and simple.

When you have DJs who are accepting money under the tabel from artist who have commerical back up for radio spins, it's a big problem to NY music. That hasa big impact on ny listeners who are now listening to this music because now 70% of the music ny is getting exposed to is garbage. This game is all about moneyit's not about the music anymore and until that changes NY will be where it is.

ron browz is kinda poppin right now and the fact that at a CLUB, not the whip or crib, people show no love is a prime example of we (NYers) notshowing love to our own
 
I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that New York really wants the megastars. They won't appreciate the guy that is up and coming and tryingto make it as much they will the megastar. It's an easy concept for me to grasp seeing how big this city is.
 
At least NT has dudes who are able to comprehend what Joe was saying. All the high school drop outs on World Star were getting extra tight & proving mypoint.
But yeah, this period for NY hip hop is the chickens coming home to roost. Egos, provincialism, back biting have weakened the foundation.
The south embraces THE SOUTH. Dudes from Florida embrace dudes from Texas or Georgia. Where the eff is Boston? Less than 10 notable emcees in 30 some odd yearsof this rap thing from the Bean? Philly has more talent than how it has been represented. Conn will not even get past the door. You let Jersey get a little aslong as we "knew our place" in the back. I guarantee NY would not embrace an emcee from Providence RI. Media & entertainment flows through NY,but yall dudes tried to rule with an iron fist.
Even within NYC proper the same thing exists.
This is an isolationist mentality manifesting itself. The only problem is the whole east is assed out as a result.

New York will one day be back on top.....I just hate the fact that we may have to dumb down our lyrics to get play anywhere.

What's sad is that someone is going to misinterpret Budden's statement and make a diss record towards him by the end of the week.
 
basically put I just moved to florida after living in NY for 18 years and I must admit that I would rather see N.E.R.D.(VA) in concert than Maino(NY) thatsjust my 2 cents call it what you want.

dude hasn't impressed me YET. i rather hear his goon friends papoose and uncle murder...they're way better...

another thing about NYC rappers, performing for a crowd is JUST as important as spittin lava. lots of times you go and see these dudes and they give underwhelming performances....

NY is a mix of different scenes and different artist.

Not everyone listens to these artist or depends on these artist to bring back NY hip hop.

Out in the Bay we got hella rappers that can spit but its strictly underground. When they hit up clubs tho it gets crazy up in there.
