WHAT 1 SONG MADE YOU THINK HIP HIP WAS DEAD, OR KEPT IT ALIVE?

this thread is lame...im so sick of all this hip hop elitist %!+@#%%% that goes on around here. Like EVERY @%#@% who picks up a mic is supposed to be on somethought provoking **%!. Your beef shouldn't be with the Soulja Boy's and the D4L's it should be the labels and the record execs...Soulja Boyain't telling nobody who to go buy and who not to buy.

I think most people who call Hip Hop dead, are probably the people that consider Hip Hop a trend, rather than a way of life. It takes more than a few clubrecords to kill an ENTIRE culture.

if Hip Hop was alive, well and Healthy nobody would ever say whether it was dead or dying.
You dont go poke Healthy, walking ppl with sticks to see if they're alive do you?

The Commericalization of a culture doesn't necessarily mean that it is dead but a pure part of it may be gone.

Dead-Everything in the south minus T.I., Ludacris

I like Gucci Mane+other ignorant music in doses

Alive
Jayz-American Gangster
Immortal tech
Nas-UNTITLED

Chicken Noodle Soup, Laffy Taffy, White T etc.... Basically the songs that were a formula: a simple beat + a phrase said 40 times in a row + a stupid dance...

during that whole rule 3:36 time. when the "soft r&b" rapper phase took over. i was like hip hop was in a bad place right now

smh.gif
. but that eventually faded out and good music started comin aroun again. then when i heard "white-tee" and "noliaclap" i was thinkin again like wow this is what hip hop has become.

but i never really thought hip hop was dead tho. there are still underground cats and "real"
eyes.gif
hip hop rappers that are still doin it so i dont understand how hip hop can bedead. its never been the most popular in the 1st place its always the mainstream rappers that win the awards and get the singles or w/e, but imo as long as theunderground cats or mixtape artists keep puttin out music and their fans keep supportin it, hip hop cant be dead

back them especially compared to now there was alot more options in terms of alternatives
the game was bakanced
i think most ppl would rather go back to that than whats comin out today.
idk

dead: Shawty Lo "Dun Dun" Or whatever that bulls*** is called. Worst rapper ever IMO
Alive: anything Lupe and Common spits

For the people like myself and others that say or have said hip hop is dead, it's because the QUALITY and creative aspect of hip hop has certainly taken adramatic decline over the past few years to how it used to be. Everything in life is suppose to get better or at the very least stay the same, that has notbeen the case with hip hop over the past few years. Hip hop has actually taken a few steps backwards IMO, not just rapppers but the entire community as awhole. I will say this, Lupe is one of the dudes I felt gave me hope to think that it would get better in the future. To draw a direct comparison, you canlook at both Hip Hop and the American car industry in it's early years and see the steady decline or downright failure in recent years.

i guess doin gap commercials is keepin hip hop alive these days huh?

how has it gone backwards i dont understand. there always will be and has been wack rappers thats not gonna change. and those dudes whomake"real" music are still makin music im guessin these are who yall are referrin to (buddens, nas, roots, common, lupe,'kast etc.) so how is it goinbackwards?? them dudes aint leavin/retirin so that type of music is still here.

and as for the community hip hop in general is for younger folks. from the dancin, the style, the attiude the majority of it all appeals to the youngergeneration. IMO i dont think hip hop is dead i jus think its goin in another direction than what most would like. that jus happens to be the 13-18 range

i think hip hop like all genre of music has to die to be made new again. hip hop has died many times over and now were in an awkward stage bc hip hop died ithink 2003-04 but that was also the time talib and kanye came out. I think when nelly and chingy came out with the right THURR and the pimp juice songs (i likeboth artists) because they had it everywhere. it made hip hop look cheesy and people in the media tired to label hip hop as pop. Both songs were everywhere andold people liked it or made fun of the songs. the song/album/mc that saved hip hop is the black album, zion i, college drop out, talib etc...

as of right now there are not many artists that are doing it for the game they are putting out 2-3 songs on a cd filled with 10 other crappy songs just to haveanother cd its kinda sad.

how has it gone backwards i dont understand.

I clearly listed my reasoning for this in my post, it is below for you to read again...............

it's because the QUALITY and creative aspect of hip hop has certainly taken a dramatic decline over the past few years to how it used to be.

and those dudes who make"real" music are still makin music im guessin these are who yall are referrin to

The problem with that is those rappers your referring to are now in the minority instead of the majority, years ago it was the other way around.

Na..... hip hop is neaither daed nor taking steps back, what makes hip hop great is that its ever changing. I remember the O.G.'s talkin !$! about 90'srap because it wasnt 80's rap. And now fans of 90's rap are made at the new decade. This thing is ever changing its jus time to catch up. Solja boy andGucci are hip hop like it or not.

I dont think hip hop is dead either...its just heading in a different direction appealing to young kids who just want to have fun...a song that"killed" it or started this new trend i think is that soulja boy - superman....a song that is keeping it "alive" to me is Az - Knowledge isfreedom....songs the truth like paul pierce in the finals hahaha

Solja boy and Gucci are hip hop like it or not.

Just so that we're both on the same page here, as far as rappers go we went from Rakim & Big Daddy Kane to Biggie and Jay Z to now Soulja Boy and GucciMane, and yet you have the audacity to say with a straight face that we haven't taken steps backwards

??

i might be young but i thought Hip Hop started off of club/party records and dancing songs (B-Boys) and jus having a good time!

isnt that what snap music is? (jus in a southern form)

JUS A THOUGHT?...............

so with that being said i dont think Hip Hop was dead at all! jus different forms of it are being noticed!

If any thing i think Nas made alot of rappers step there game by saying it was dead! since then alot of rappers stepped up to the plate with there craft eventhe so called "rap killer" Soulja Boy stepped his game up

I thought Young Jeezy and similar artists were the reason Hip-Hop was dying until dude came out with My President.
