Go ask my pre school, even talk to my old principal
He'll tell you how I used to pack a #2 pencil
Stabbin students, grabbin teachers, Catholics, preachers
In the school staircase, cuttin class, passin my reefer
In my own class, operation return, they tried to say
I was incompetent, not able to learn
The table turned now, got my own label to earn
Like that _ said in Dead Presidents, MONEY TO BURN

I watch videos like this and think back to those days...

I was like 12/13 back then thinking hip hop was a whole culture that i wanted to be apart of. I wanted to be like Nas, Pun, Rae, all them dudes. It made mego out and form my own taste in music and go further underground into the whole Rawkus Records scene, listening to any rapper who caught my ear and goin intothe lunchroom like "ya'll N's don't know nothin bout _____". Rap music isn't even about that anymore. It's not aboutdiscovering new artists and digging for something no one else may know about.

Now it's like....

It's like I wouldn't want to see no 12/13 year old kid to look up to any of the current hot rappers b/c they aren't about %!!$. It's likeit's all about having the most mass appeal and listening to the most popular rapper of the moment.

Ya'll remember when it was cool to diss whatever rapper was big at the time and profess your love for the underground?? I remember when cats HATED Jay-Z

You can't tell me there's no difference between then and now when it comes to quality in mainstream music.

Queensbridge, pay homage, respect Nas is a vet
Acknowledge the rep, polish baguettes, __s is this n that
I'm just the best, puttin all violence to rest
