Tips on reading from textbooks. Vol. Honor Roll Students

Honestly, I think I naturally have an apt short term memory, because I can cram for a test by reading 50 - 100 pages in a couple nights, then when I take thetest I can almost see the pages. The problem is I'll probably forget it by the end of the week. Weird, but unfortunately cramming is quite ineffective incollege, so I have had to drastically redefine my study habits. I found that reading a section, then summarizing the section aloud and/or composing an outlineon the computer helps the information really sink in.

i always tell my nephew to visualize what you're reading. (e.g. reading a novel and visualizing it like a movie). not an honor roll student though, sodon't take my word for it. underachievers FTW.

While reading the textbook, type your notes up. Then after you're done, read the notes that you just typed up. This is a better method than simply readinga 20+ page chapter and expecting to retain all the important information.

This is so true.

Also, index cards help to break down the notes.

The best thing to do is read it and UNDERSTAND IT, many times I catch myself just reading words while thinking what I'm going to eat for lunch. You need tofocus on the material and do not continue to the next sentence unless you understand the previous sentence. And the best advice is repetition is the key! Read the stuff over and over and over again and also write the key points of what you read, that wayyou can absorb the material instead of just read words. Good luck

What works for me is highlight and take notes of what prof says and then compare it with the text book.

Now, some people may need moving to understand and memorize things. Other people record what they study and play it to learn it and other higlight and makecharts. Try wich one is better for you and you will be set man.
