Word. I really don't like that dude MidEast when it comes to music. To me those Rawkus (philosophies, philosophies) type dudes are one trick ponies. Make a track about Free Masons over a boom bap beat and that's it. I don't like Wayne Or Fifty like that but I tell you what, the same way people say that all they make are those party clubby track, if they wanted to they could EASILY do the super deep/political lyrical rap songs and BETTER. Ask one of the Immortal Technique, Jedi mind trick or Tragedy Khadafi cats to make a clubby track or hell even a R&B track that'll appeal to someone besides a underground head and they COULDNT. Face it, you force yourself to listen to that boring *%*%

Um, no.

The people you mentioned arn't about soft party music, and I don't enjoy that. I can still appreciate joints like Snoop's doggystyle. The softhip-pop that's selling right now at a party or club is fine, JMT and IT don't fit in there, obviously. I still find what I listen to extremelyentertaining. Just because some songs have a message doesn't mean they don't go hard with insane beats, and dope lyrics spit with a sick flow.

You don't like it ? That's alright go back and listen to shawty lo or neyo or whatever is poppin' with females nowadays. Let me stop you though, wayne or fifty cannot even comprehend some of the stuff I listen to, let alone make songs like 'em.

Popularity =/= Quality.

BTW, I listen to more than underground music. I just prefer that now, combined with the classics from the golden era of hip-hop. I can listen to something likegucci mane for comedy, but that's about it.

At son mentioning a album that came out in 2003...
The problem with 50 and something that he will never relalize is that you can't really treat this music sht a 100 percent like a business...
He thinks becuse he once sold 10 million records he can keep on repeating that same formula and people will still check for it...

NEGATIVE...
Fans want to hear at least an effort showing sometype of growth or something differnt...
Risks that only people who put the music before the business take...

FYI: He also has a major image problem. No one is buying that a man that is worth a quarter million is still busting his gun or selling drugs
laugh.gif
"a fully loaded clip" riiiiighhht...

to me 50 went from good to something he dislike and beef with ja rule about.......a pop artist. hes only dissing wayne cause of that one hit wonder song jarule made with him. 50 would diss anybody if he or she made a song with ja. Anyways, waynes wack anyways. the so called best rapper alive needed help all thistime. The state of hip-hop went from great lyrics (90s) to this dancing/swagger BS.

So now a group of guys who haven't sold ONE record are trying to tell one of the best selling artists this decade how to sell records?? Don't treat themusic business like a BUSINESS??

He done made 400 mill in 5 or 6 years and STILL gets hated on . . . ONLY in hip hop

Now you sound as bad as dude your trying to put down
Kweli, Mos, and Kool G and others signed to Rawkus (when they were active) are far from illuminati speaking and rap on beats far from boom bap.
Often these artists are unwilling to make certain sacrifices to their art to get that push and put out a radio friendly song. All those guys are heavilycosigned and given the right backing could possibly be succesful in the sales department.
Common is at his bigggest now not because of his initial fanbase but because of the major cosign of a one Mr. Kanye West.
Don't believe me, Lupe, now a darling to use for people who claim to listen to whenever a Real Hip Hop debate goes on, is a platinum selling artist withthe cosign of K West, raps with subject matter that would have fell perfectly into that Rawkus bracket you guys love to use.
Put Kweli in the same position and I guarantee he sees a boost in sales.

Now don't get me wrong I'm not one of these dudes that believe everything underground is good or everything on the radio is trash; likewise I dont wantto hear Kweli in the club and on the same token what I hear in the club I dont want to hear everyday.

No. I'm far from a backpacker fam.

When mainstream is good, I listen to that too. Nowadays, it's just garbage. I'm not hating on it just because it's mainstream or commerciallysuccessful, It's just horrible music. From everyone listed above I can't think of more than a handful of tolerable songs, if any. I'm a fan of goodmusic wherever it is, it just so happens to be underground atm. I'm more of a fan of the classics from the 90's especially when NY had that hard grimyhip hop culture than I am of underground too. I've posted a lot about what type of music I listen too, ipod playlists etc, if you look you will see that Ilisten to a wide range of good music, not just the underground groups.

I've given them a fair chance and they haven't impressed me. Lacking in talent and just out to make money
smh.gif
Let's be real now, make a list ofwhat's popular mainstream and I'll make a list of artists in my itunes and I guarantee that 99% of real hip-hop heads would agree on which are moretalented. If you wanna listen to catchy watered down pop-like music made to appeal to as many people as possible, that's fine. I on the other handappreciate the talent that goes into what I listen too.

son you're corny...Your ignorant $!* has already made it obvious that underground hip hop encompasses Talib Kweli, Jedi Mind Tricks, & ImmortalTechinique in your mind. Don't bash what you don't know %%$! about, don't front like you know anything about underground hip hop. The sad thing isthere's underground %%$! out there that you and other sheep would actually like, too bad you don't even know it exist.

For the record i hate immortal technique and I've never really been able to get into Jedi Mind Tricks. Talib gets a pass for any wack !$@*he puts based on Train of Thought and Blackstar alone.

^Exactly.

The underground hip hop world has literally thousands of different people and groups, each with different styles and subject matter. This dude names 3 peopleand goes so far so to say the entire underground world is "corny".

I hate when people try to bash something they know nothing about.

^No you don't. No one really does, it's too huge a movement for anyone to claim they know enough about to say the whole thing is "corny"
indifferent.gif

I'm not even much of a fan of Kweli, he's way too soft for me but I appreciate some of his better works. I agree with you on Cold Vein.

People must be crazy thinkin that out of the thousands of MC's out there only the dozen or so that are always in the mainstream headlines are the"best"... There are many underground MC's who would tear their faces off with no problem. Straight gritty lyrics that would be banned from theairwaves

I wish these 2 dudes would go head to head, but Wayne would not respond seriously and 50 does not have the same influence and power that he used to.

Then i spoke to soon and without warrant,

I realized i had made mistake when he mentioned Can Ox

Regardless, how are you gonna write off a sub genre as big as the underground in its entirety? !%$+ has changed of course but the underground is just as strongas ever, i actually think it's becoming too strong in a way. With the internet today and all the blogs and what not you've got so many cats makingmusic and so many more means of access to it that not everything is going to be quality. If it's not already, the underground/backpack thing is going tobecome a fad in the next couple of years. Even with the current state of things you still have too many dope artist putting out quality music.Did you listen to Vordul Mega's album that came out this summer? Most Mega/Vast fans didn't even know it came out.

I was talkin about immortal technique and Vast Aire are peoples.

New underground !$%+ can't hold a torch to the mid 90's - early 2000s era . . .
