How long would it take to lose 30 pounds

3 months of solid diet and workout. More than 3 days a week. Or 5 months of good diet and moderate workout. Also depends on your body type, how much wateryou're retaining, etc.

Height/weight/build?

If you're in the obese range, you could drop 30 pounds in about six weeks or shorter. If you're just a little overweight it will probably take 10-12weeks.

Define 'working out'. I laugh when I see cats going to the gym to lift when they're trying to take lbs off. Youneed to run, do cardio and aero.

I started at around 210 lbs on 9/1/08 (I gained some lbs while on vacation back in the homeland). As of this morning I'm 173 lbs. Planning on going downto around 150 by summer.

Yeah.

I think it's common to lose 2-4 lbs a week, but obviously it varies on a whole bunch of things. Back when I was fatter, with diet and exercise (4x a weekweights and cardio), I was dropping on average of 3-4 lbs a week.

Im no expert though, so yeah

lifting does burn fat wj4...i agree that cardio will make it come off faster but you should utilize all aspects...I was 310 and got down to 237 byjust running...now I lift and at 250 but I look the same...just put some moooskull on.

Fail. Combining lifting with cardio is the best way to shed pounds, as muscle burns fat very efficiently

I'm sure that lifting does help burn fat, but it's not that effective IMO. I have friends who are fat and lift weight, but do very littlerunning and cardio...now they're still fat with brolic arms.

You dropped a nice number of lbs just by running. I only run to lean out my thighs, only about 6-8 miles a week. I thought about lifting again when I get tomy target weight, but I'm still not sure.

If you play your cards right, and stick to it, you should get there in about 4-5 months.

It could be less time of course, depending on how much work you put in.

That is definitely due in part to their diet. I agree, cardio by itself is much more effective than lifting by itself for losing weight, but acombination of both is ideal.

Do HIIT for cardio.

This man knows what he is talking about.
And it is Lose not loose.

OP. get on the treadmill or eliptical if you're not an outdoorsy person. on the treadmill set the incline to the highest and walk for 5 minutes...set itback to flat and do a full out print for 45 seconds to a minute and continue...you'll be done in 30 minutes and its effective.

I went from 232 to 192 in under 3 months. No fast food, and hit up the gym at least every other day.

Depends on height, weight, build, current lifestyle (eat fast food then sit on couch for a night), personal drive, etc. I've never even pushed 165 in mylife, but when I want to shed 5 pounds for cycling season, I can do it in no time by eating a lot healthier, exercising a lot more, and stressing a lot less.

I'm 5'10''. A reason why I want to avoid lifting (at least for now) is because I want to compete in Muay Thai competitions. I'd need to be around 145-150 lbs for my height. At 173 now, there are still some bits of fat on my stomach and thighs.

My point about lifting was that, yes it's effective if you team up with other cardio routines. But if you're 300 lbs, going to the gym to do somebench presses and leg lifts...you're not going to see results, much.

Seriously it is all dependent on you. You are asking how long it would take to lose 30lbs, when really a lot of that decision is in your own hands. There areways to lose that weight in under a month, granted it would be pretty unhealthy, result in fat AND muscle loss, and the weight loss would be short-livedconsidering you would gain it back, or you could steadily lose it in about three to four months if you were to burn 2.5lbs a week. Some of the main problemswith people trying to lose weight and being unsuccessful in the process is not specifically defining their goals, having no way of tracking their progress, submitting (failing to keep the eye on the prize), and going ON a diet (which assumes that you will sooner or later go OFF the diet). If you are serious aboutlosing 30lbs then it will NOT be easy. Going to the gym three times a week is enough for health maintenance, but might not cut it depending on how intense yourworkouts are. For optimal fat loss you should do a combination of both weight training and cardio. You would need to drastically change your eating habits ifyou haven't already. I don't feel like going into specifics on exactly what foods but it is all available with a little research and Google. When itcomes to weight loss its simply the question of burning more calories than you intake each day. To get an idea of how many calories you burn and how many youeat, its a good idea to start calorie counting (its really easy once you start doing it). In addition you may want to calculate how many calories you burnthroughout the day-again an online calculator can be Googled). It isn't an easy process that's for sure, or else everyone would be on the track to aslim & healthy future right?

Lastly! when it comes to losing weight everybody and their mom's seem to become an expert on the subject. If someone reads something in a health magazineor sees it on Oprah they will think it true for everyone when in reality everyone's body is different. So if you tell your friends or family that you aretrying to loss weight, take all the advice you get with a grain of salt. The concept of weight loss itself is very simple.

Best of luck!

this is true, gotta do both for most efficient fat burning... with the said i need to get back into shape

Although weight is important, you might want to get used to measuring body fat instead to gauge your progress.

Ideally, you wanna lose the body fat, but gain some lean muscle to fill your figure out, otherwise you'd look like urkel at 150 lbs. Aint that right wj4?

Once you start putting on muscle, since it weights more than fat, you'll begin to see your weight fluctuate up, down, and even at a standstill for a while, but you'll become "skinnier" or leaner as I'd prefer to be called.

Speaking from experience I did it in a month. Do the fat smash lifestyle. Exercise at leat 4 times a week and drink nothing but water and you'll shedpounds in no time...
