My friend said that prior to Carter III, Wayne was going platinum in a month with The Carter and Carter II. I really do not recall. But consensus is that hehad to make a Pop singles like Lollipop and Got Money in order to blow up the way he did.

"The Block is Hot" (Double platinum)

"Lights Out" (Gold)

"500 Degreez" also went Gold

"Tha Carter" (Platinum)

"Tha Carter 2" went Double platinum

pretty much, his numbers were always solid, The Block Is Hot went double plat for God's sake but when Carter 1 dropped is when dude started to emerge intoa star of his own...The Block Is Hot through 500 Hundred Degreez he didn't really have an identity. I know i still viewed him as lil n' from the HotBoyz. A lot of his new younger fans probably don't even know who Turk, BG, or Juve are, it's just Wayne.

Yeah I noticed him rap difffently on Soldier I heard Jay-Z coached and told him to flow like that. It's dope though, but I didn't really start takingweezy serious til The Carter II, then he got better and bottomed out with the Carter III LOL. All good though Carter III wasn't that bad.

Exacctlyy So what im saying is around the time of the Carter 1 dropping......where he had the Suffix and Prefix mixtapes..he started coming into his own as anoticed star
After the Carter 1......then people started saying hmmmmmmmmm this dude might be "the best rapper alive"

I guess it's a regional thing cause down south Wayne has been big his whole career ever sense the Bling Bling days.

i don't think anybody who actually remembers/listened to him when he was with the Hot Boyz does. But that's the thing though, they were the Hot Boyz, not Lil Wayne and crew.

Wayne been hot down south EASILY, since like 1997. At 15 or 16 y/o. The only hot boy that I thought didnt have star power was Turk. Juve, BG and Wayne alltook that hot boy fame and ran with it.
