They were great, But got surpassed...Live with it.
Truth, I can name 10 rappers better than Big so that GOAT stuff needs to fall back. Big is barely top 15.

if you name 15 rappers better than BIG I'll never post on NT again...

Like really Rakim changed rap, If it weren't for Rakim, we'd still have people rapping with the old school Grandmaster Caz type flow.
LL will never be even considered for GOAT
He can name his album GOAT all he wants but he will never be taken seriously as a GOAT contender.

If Rakim walked into a room and said I'm GOAT nobody would argue with him.
If LL walked into a room and said the same he'd get

BTW remember the backlash he got for calling himself the GOAT?

Yeah Thought so.

Not for nothing but dude got a point.

I aint never heard anyone list L in they're top 5-10-15. Not to say he might not be worthy of it, but I've yet to hear that nor would I agree with itif I did.

He did catch some flack for the album title and back then he was "doint it" more so than today.

Dont get me wrong I've been a fan of LL's for what many would call a lifetime and have the utmost respect for what he's done but I would'ntcategorize him with Rakim.

Please name them.

Jay
Nas
KRS
Rakim
Eminem
Chuck D
Rae
Ghost
Andre 3000
Tupac
Mos Def
GZA
Pun who was way more lyrical and basically had the same career as Big, just didn't have as much commercial success and wasn't in the process of selling out.
Cube
Prodigy who sucks now but his prime work in Mobb Deep + HNIC > Big.

Hell even Prime LL and Scarface could be seen as better than Big. He was nice but there are too many people that you can make a valid argument for that arebetter than he was.

That's all the people I can think of off top

Big had 1 classic and 1 album where his lyricism greatly declined, he was just a martyr so people make him out to be the greatest ever. That's why rap fansfor the most part suck because they don't want change. No matter how good some one is they will ALWAYS be under Big. He was nice back in the day but hisbody of work is out classed in every aspect by the people I just named.

It's confirmed Cake... He's on water...

I'm not on anything, you people are just on Big's sack. Yes he was nice but there are grip of people now that would eat his food on a track/ are betterthan him overall.

I'll agree with this, but not your list.
I think that 1 body of work was top 10 all time tho

, I just think he was swayed by Puff

You guys gotta look at it like this look how many rappers would be considered the GOAT if they died right after their second album

Jay- Reasonable doubt/ in my life time. One is a undisputed classic and the other one is an ok album. Same as Bigs first two.
Nas- Illmatic and IWW, ones the greatest rap album ever and the other one is considered by some to be a classic as well.

I could go on and on but I'm not, the fact that he only had 2 albums and had such a sharp decline in lyricism and overall talent in his second album provesthat he cant possibly be the greatest rapper ever. Longevity to me is the cornerstone of being even considered theGOAT and he had none- yeah he died but who beefs with an entire coast and then goes there like its all good?

They were one dimensional, Pun had club bangers same as big. Go listen to planet Asia and talk about how you're a 'real' hip hop fan.

No offense but I don't take white peoples opinions on rap seriously.

So which one do you consider the superior album, I'm guessing Ready to Die by your language.
I wouldn't consider that the better album myself but even if you do Biggie was just that nice no one had sequencing ability like BIG.

I'm about to use what may be considered a bad example but here goes.

Most rappers Rap from A-Z and go A C E L Z and thats the picture they paint
When BIG rhymes he goes From A-Z and its A B C D all the way to Z in order with out anything missing, crystal clarity. Thats why I consider him GOAT

PS Big and Pac both had already made it clear it was between them and them alone , well Pac usually brought more folk into it but regardless Big never statedhe hated Cali altogether.

I agree it wasn't a good move on his part to go over there at that time.

Cue the Beanie "U corny" pic

Who cares about club hits, I'm talkin' about raw talent. Kool G and Big L are more talented than everyone on your list, with the exception of Pun (theyare about equal but Big L > Pun IMO)

Well to a back packer nerd rap fan- club hits wouldn't matter but there is more to being considered a GOAT than just raw talent. Canibus has more rawtalent than a lot of people and look where that got him?

Pun> L
You're a racist.

fixed.

You're wrong, I'm not a "back packer nerd rap fan"

I hate people like that actually.

I'm all about the hardcore %&^*, whether it be from the 80's EPMD joints, to the 90's and the golden era to the modern day; both mainstream andunderground.

essentially what I said is Dre, you're too young to even be allowed to participate in this convo.

You're my dude, but you're being foolish and you know why.

this is in response to the list that was posted earlier, this is what I consider one of Pacs more lyrical peices and he got ate on this track.
How could you put him over Big on the lyrical tip, you can't even argue that you meant artistic because you used the term eat and we all know when you sayeat its a refrence to lyrical ability.

You mean to tell me he could eat BIG on a lyrical tip?
Nah and thats no disrespect to Pac I can listen to Pac all day and have on many occassions but on a lyrical tip he's not on BIG's level.

Artistically he's superior because of the vast subjects he's touched on and his ability to evoke emotion in music but he did it with his approach, flowand voice, But BIG was superior when it came to painting the picture with lyrics alone, unless the emotion was anger.

Reminds me I need to go get Book 1 of All Eyes again
pimp.gif
(don't ask)

Did you even listen to Life After Death? There is no way he fell off lyrically and he only had 5 commercial songs on LAD...

Also see the left over songs on Born Again, ex: Dead Wrong.

BIG wasn't going anywhere...

Who is this cat disrespecting BIG?? I'm done here, my brotha Sosa posted the list, heard good arguments from the dudes I respect . . . Now its just gettinstupid . . .

SENDOne
LL is the man, I mean from a hip hop stand point LL has to be mentioned with Ra, but maybe on a lyricism/MC tip Ra might have him, but I think MUSICALLY
LL > Rakim
LYRICIALLY
Rakim > LL

You know what Nay, you're wright, in the greater scheme of Hip Hop LL HAS to mentioned along Rakim. But when talking about the greatest to ever do it, hedon't belong in that category.
