Car rides are the best with 101. If there's any CD you need to listen to in a nice car with a nice system, it's GOTTA be this .. This dominated myfreshman/sophomore year of high school.

I think there are albums that can be on the line. Soe people dont call Game theory a classic, I think it is , it's debatable. Same here.

it isn't....compare to a ACTUAL classic like get rich, or reasonable doubt, or ready to die and it pales in comparison.

Basically, 101 is NOT a classic. That term gets rapped like no other these days, half the time its usage isn't even justified.

But You're fooling yourself if you don't think Lets Get It, The Inspiration, Trap Or Die, hell even Recession aren't phenomenaltrunk music...If you can't $+!# with Jeezy in the whip, i probably can't $+!# with you.

our classics are universally accepted as classics.

maybe in the last few years, but in reality the South has spit out classics throughout the 90's though...that's generally the problem with NYers and alot of other East coast dudes in generally, don't know !@@+ about a lot of that good southern music

Uh, ATCQ and Outkast are both widely regarded as a couple of the best groups of all time, having a preference or declaring one is better than the other ishardly outlandish at all.

Comparing 101 to Game Theory, naw im just not ready for all of that...If you're just trying to raise the point that there's gonna be a difference inopinions i feel you.

Classic. No doubt.
for me, Thug Motivation ended an era.
Jeezy closed the door on "I lived that life" rappers
dont even spit that +%@# on the mic. let that genre go. Jeezy touched up on that, merked it, and left it for dead

Everything released after TM with the same sorta content falls way short. He ruined southern hip hop for me, cuz Now I expect so much more outta these !%%!%*and i end up disappointed
I cant even rock with Tip the way I used to.
and I aint sayin Jeezy is the greatest or some dope lyricist, but for a Album, he put it together as well as anyone can, and he held my attention.

I cant even explain how much play this gets to this day.
for me, this CD was like hearing "The Infamous..." at an older age with just a lil different perspective

if you repeat yourself...on a wack line... you're wack.
this dude is 1 step below mixtape rappers with the punchlines, just a few steps above with song making(notrapping).

I like how everyone plays out "punchline rappers" but all Jeezy does is have better beats, built in chorus'es, adlibs, and even WORSE punchlines.
that makes for good club music, good temporary music, yes... but dude is anti-lyrical.

THIS MAY BE A HIGHLY ENJOYABLE ALBUM BUT A RAP ALBUM NEEDS TO BE LYRICAL TO BE A CLASSIC

Because the rest of those punchline rappers suck at actually making albums. All the things you listed attribute to highly enjoyable music being put out timeand time again from Jeezy

I agree.

I definitely don't, it just so happens that the vast majority of true classics are lyrical.

Im sayin it all depends on what standards you use to call an album classic. See the difference with alot of NY heads and southerners is thatsoutherners treat hip hop like any other music. Lyrics are important in music but not really if the song has good music and the hooks are memorable and thewhole album has a theme to it thats unique

Take Earth Wind and Fire they werent "lyrical" like a Hip Hop purest would say. They just made good music. Nobody siill can tell me what the heck17.5 means (Im talkin about the EWF) they just tell me it doesnt matter it probally means nothing but the music is good.

I just think that too many people look into hip hop lyrics for knowledge, they have books for that Im tryin to be entertained. I mean thats what music isright? Entertainment? I seen a lot of the albums NT cause classics. I check them out and some them are so hard to get into because the music is lackin.

"I used to hit the kitchen lights cockroaches everywhere/I hit the kitchen lights now theres marble floors everywhere" You cant tell me that lineisnt Notorius Bigiest if Chris Wallace would have said it it would go down as one of the best album starter lines in history. Im not comparing jeezy to Big Imjust sayin you people act like alot of what jeezy says is so out of the league of what BIG said they was both talkin about crack.

^I'm pretty sure we're arguing the same side for the most part.

I was the first to say an album doesn't HAVE to have great lyrics for it to be a classic, we've also been making the same points about the overallentertainment level of Jeezy's music.

I see where you're coming from with the EWF reference but i think lyrics are one of those things that substantially deviates rap from other genres ofmusic, because of that it's appropriate that significance is placed on lyrical value and content.

As far as people looking into rap for "lyrics and knowledge," people bring up that point all the time, especially when discussing underground hiphop. Let me say this, i don't know anybody who truly looks to gain knowledge via a rappers lyrics
laugh.gif

Regardless, a lot of people need to understand that the entertainment argument and the idea of being entertained by the music we listen to goes both ways. It's all subjective, different individuals will have different taste. Some of us are entertained by a Jeezy or a Young Dro while at the same time some ofus are "entertained" by lyricism, creativity, and thought provoking #*!*.

It just so happens that if someone is more into the latter they're labeled as "backpack" or an elitist while the other is criticized for notlistening to "true hip hop, real music" etc
