Jay-Z-American Gangster

I don't think Jay and 50 are the same type of artists, 50 can't make the records Jay does, and vice versa . . . That's neither here nor there. Assomeone stated before, I'm gonna judge Jay based on what he has done, and from what he has done, I can't sit here with a straight face and try to passAG off as anything other than a pretty decent effort . . . Same with 50, I don't try to pass his @+*@ off as anything other than what it is . . . Lazyefforts lately.

To my brotha CAKE . . . I just wanted to establish the basis for what the albums would be rated on, judging by the albums you enjoyed/ didn't enjoy you canprolly provide a fair rating, opposed to someone that enjoyed ALL his albums . . . But fam you liked Vol 3?? @+*@ was certified TRASH . . .

Yea Nay I actually %$@@%% with Vol. 3 heavy... maybe because it followed up Vol.2 and didn't have the same extra corny feel as that happy go lucky +#!#
smh.gif

but seriously... Only tracks I didn't +#%$ with were S. Carter and Pop 4 Da Roc... those two were absolutely +$* in every aspect

years down, it'll be considered a classic and looked upon as great work from Jay, sorta how Reasonable Doubt went

I like Vol. 2 . . . One of my fav Hov albums . . . He had some joints on there . . .

I know you LOVED Vol 1 a lot, I wasn't too crazy about that album tho . . . Its not bad by any means, but it left too much to be desired IMO

Not even.

2....Maybe 3 questionable songs on there.....

The rest were bangers.

I would love to see you elaborate on that. I mean minus that abysmal "I Know What Girls Like" he should've had Puff tortured for bringin him thatnonsense) I thought it was as complete as he could be at the time. It gets the same wrap that IWW gets (we won't go into this we both know we stand onopposite sides of the highway) because it was the follow up to what is considered to be his Mona Lisa

(

That's why I don't listen to NTers . When American Gangster first came out , everybody was like "Jay fell off", "Jay whack" .

Now it's classic to everyone ...

It's a classic album IMO though , I knew it was going to be when it first came out , and I got stonefaced .

Vol 1 basically is always gonna suffer cause it is a follow up to an absoluetly AMAZING album . . . So I go in expectin to hear Reasonable Doubt 2 (like manyothers), but ended up gettin a line straddling effort. From the Most commercial efforts of his early career, "City Is Mine", "I Know What GirlsLike" & "Sunshine" to the abortion of a BK collab "Face/Off" . . . You have the AMAZING tracks with the "You Must LoveMe", "Where I'm From", "Streets Is Watching" "Intro/A Million . . .", "Rap Game/Crack Game", then there'sjust "other" +!@#, not REALLY Great, but not really bad. "Imaginary Player" (sounds like he's tryin to recapture the Reasonable Doubtmagic), "Friend Or Foe 2", "Lucky Me" (never felt the track, the rapping is coo tho), "Who You Wit" (not you if you make anothersong like this), "Real Ninjas" . . .

Never been to crazy about the album, did a quick listen as I was typing this to reconfirm that . . .

Are my eyes deceiving me, did I read that or interpret that correctly to mean that Imaginary Player isn't great??

I think he said it's trying to recapture that RD feel, but it failed(in this aspect)

You dudes are kidding right???

If I had time I'd pull up the album thread from a year ago. When half of NT was calling it the garbage that it is. Now it's a classic huh?
grin.gif

Aside from Party Life, Roc Boys, Fallin, Say Hello, Ignorant @###, No Hook, and I Know album is trash. And I'm what some of you would call a Jay-Z
"stan."

Y'all be killing me sometimes.

you are killing me, how you gonna name half the songs on the album talkin bout they hot and then call the album trash as a whole? lol wut?

So if one half the album is good and the other half is trash it's a classic?

I never said the album as a whole was trash. Just the songs other than I mentioned...which means there's no way it's a "classic"

American Dreamin
American Gangster
Pray
Success

All bangers. But at the end of the day, it's all preference and if that's how you feel then ok. But imo those songs that omitted are great.

I liked AG, but I can't co-sign loud enough with this statement. Calling it a "concept album" based off the movie was just an excuseto rap about selling drugs, I was saying that when it released.

And that's how I feel about Kingdom Come, he was trying to rap about what a 37-year old should rap about (if they're still rapping) and it just fellflat.

i love american gangster...but what i liked most about the drug pushin aspect was that it wasnt a bragging type like RD, it was more of a story of :i got luredin...im succeeding...but everything catches up to me and now my "career" is over...

sounded like it.

yea it does. this is better some of his past works. reasonable doubt, black album, and american gangster are my favorites

IMO Jay has 5 classic albums and this is one. Amazing album.

RD, TBA, BP, AG, VOL. 1are all classics to me. I know people will disagree but whatever.
