KeonClark7 - These are very flexible at the forefoot, much like Nike Free trainers. Since they incorporated Free technology, I kinda expected it.

Thanks.

I've never worn, or even held, any Nike Free shoes. But I assume by very flexible, it's as flexible if not much more flexible than the Jet Flights?

^Good comparison. I think little less flexible than Jet Flight, which had to be the most flexible Nike Basketball shoe ever.

I was almost set on getting the 2K5's, but if they are almost as flexible as Jet Flights, I may have to reconsider. I do not like the feel of my Jet Flights at all, especially for jumping. I really think I lose inches of vertical wearing those shoes lol.

I heard that Nike might use Kobe in the commercials and promotion for this shoe. Any word yet?
Now that Carl's Jr. has got him back in the marketing business I hope companies will start to use him again.

^That's great about Carl's Jr... They're my second favorite West Coast burger spot behind In N Out. Since they've used Rodman before, I'm sure it wasn't much of a controversy to use Kobe.

trust me guys, the 2k5 is one if the best ball shoes I have ever worn. get some!!

I cannot wait for ID!

About the Carls Jr thing (sorry if its off topic) but its team promotion and not just them marketing a Kobe bobblehead (Odom, Mihm, Butler, Walton & Kobe).
BUT still...they could of easily NOT not decided to sell a Kobe bobblehead.

But since its a Laker team promotion and they have no problem with Kobe being one of the bobbleheads, then props to Carls Jr.

And those white/purple/gold 2K5 are my most anticpated upcoming shoe purchase.

WOW!! at the Sam Cassell's!!!!!!!!

cannot wait on ID.

does anyone know if they are going to give us the option on ID to do different colors where the green is on the sole of the Sam Cassell??

^^^Yeah I know its a team thing, but in the past nobody used Kobe, even as part of a team promotion.
But thanks for clearing that up for everybody.

Man we need to know what that symbol stands for. Is it some new logo used only in some versions of the 2K5. We need info. Well we possibly can wait for the 2K5 feature when it hits in two weeks on Nikebasketball.com, but I can't wait that long. Come on, KDAY, Alpha, CAM, somebody this is a must for me. HELP!!!

Ok, I don't have any real information about the 2k5, I'm not an insider, but from a logical standpoint, it doesn't make any sense for them to have 'nike Free technology' in the forefoot.

Have you ever tried on a pair of the Nike Free shoes? The whole point is that it's supposed to simulate walking/training barefoot.

That being said, there's NO CUSHIONING used in Nike Free (other than the nominal cushioning provided by the rubber outsole, which is basically all that's between your foot and the floor). I'm assuming that the 2k5's use full length zoom since that's what was used in the 2k4's (and because the name of the shoe is the Air ZOOM Huarache 2k5, not to mention that it says zoom on the forefoot). You can't use zoom with 'free' they're more or less incompatible. The whole point of a cushioning system is to provide support for the foot. The whole point of free is to take away that support so that the foot becomes stronger.

Without reading up on the subject, I can tell you that the outsole has flex grooves in it that allow the outsole to flex the same way that your foot does. Basketball shoes are not designed to act the same way as your naked foot, they're supposed to provide support and protection in key areas while maintaining proper fit and freedom of movement.

I know you're seeing the flex grooves in the forefoot of the 2k5 and thinking that because they look like the forefoot flex grooves on the Frees that they use the same technology, but it really doesn't make any sense. A basketball shoe needs to be flexible at the forefoot, but not in the same way as the Free trainer. The Free trainer is designed to strengthen your foot and is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE WORN for extended periods (at least not until your feet get stronger). Wearing them for too long can lead to undue stress on the muscles and ligaments in your foot.

Needless to say, if you're going to design a basketball shoe, you want it to be comfortable enough for extended play, and you want it to provide good impact protection. Nike Free provides neither of those things.

So while the grooves in the 2k5 might remind you of the Free shoes, it doesn't really seem to me like it'd make any sense for the 2k5 to have 'Free Technology'. If you think about it, Free is actually sort of a lack of technology.

I do think the grooves are a cool design element, and I like the way they look on the shoe.
Get on the mic and rock the symphony.

^ I'm definitely not an expert in technical aspects of the shoe design, but according to the statements made by Nike product people, the Zoom Huarache 2K5 uses "Free Technology." It's even stated on the NikeBasketball.com website, in the collection section at the All Star Version picture.

Maybe AP can shed some light on the technical aspect of the shoe for us.

I was thinking the exact same thing Zen Baller
i understand what your saying, i dont know how it could help you in a basketball shoe because it seems that it would put you at risk for plantar fiscittis

DAMN.....I JUST LOVE BASKETBALL SHOES

To Zen Baller & others who question the use of the Free technology in a basketball shoe, I'm sure Nike has spend plenty of time & R&D on making sure this collabo will work. I agree that it sounds wacky, but that's the key to innovation; breaking the mold & trying something new.

question: how do we figure out the difference between real and fakes, other than the colours?
