Where do you guys cop designer prescription glasses for under retail? Preferebly in the Scarborough/Markham region.

Costco used to have a sick selection for Men 2-3 years ago but now it's just

I'm trying to avoid Pacific Mall.

Try just buying the frame for cheap on the internet. Then you can bring it to p-mall or any other prescription glasses store and they will just add theprescription lenses...

Try just buying the frame for cheap on the internet
- Size would be a crucial thing in choosing your frame

- there are some frames which cannot accommodate certain lenses depending on the kind or the power of the lenses itself

If insurance is paying this for you go to Karir @ Yorkdale(they can be pricey...knowing on how the glasses industry works). I got my Gucci 1843s there andthey're great. They got a good selection over there. You can just do that and get the lenses done @ some cheap place (although I do not recommend Wal-Martfor a specific reason).

Pacific Mall is the perfect spot, why are you trying to avoid them. Great selection and prices are mad cheap. If you're not asian, roll with someone wholooks Chinese.

I have insurance and am trying to milk those ba.stards for all they're worth

I'm scared of Pacific Mall due to fakes...I'm not an expert in differentiating real from fake glasses.

Any other suggestions?

Sizing would be an issue...unless you go to a glasses store and try the frame on only

However you are correct in terms of the type of lenses (the thickness and shape) that can fit with the frames..

Try pacific mall though....I picked up my guccis there..legit too. Do not go to the one that is on the left side of the main mall entrance.....overpricedheavily IMO.

I've been doing some research on Redflagdeals.com and a lot of people are saying that Pacific Mall is legit but the quality of the lenses are crap. Do youguys recommend buying the frame/lens from Pacific Mall or buying the frame and then getting the lens done elsewhere?

That's complete nonsense. The frames are legit there (although the dvd's ain't), and you can specify what type of treatment you want on yourlenses. Stores there even allow you to purchase sunglasses while they write them off as prescription glasses for insurance purposes. PM me if you need toknow the store name.

You can also try first markham place. Those chinese places are legit in terms of frames. Not sure about the lenses though ehh

You can try FUJI
(it's near the main entrance, go up the escalators turn left go ALL THE WAY)- they're a chain and my friend's worked there in the past... legit andtakes insurance claims

Then there's this other one, I forgot the name. It's more towards the rear side of the mall second or third column from the right, corner store

I went to Pacific Mall today...great selection and better prices than I expected.

damnthosej's...I was close to copping your Gucci 1843's but they looked very similar to my current eyeglasses.

I ended up settling on some Pradas after going to 10+ stores. It's important to check the prices of the glasses you've settled on before actuallyspending the money. When I settled on my pair, the first store told me $400+, the second store was $330, I ended up paying way less than that at a 3rd storeand got contact lenses as well (I just have to fill out the insurance claim forms now).

$400 bones! Sounds like the non asian special lol. Out of the many glasses my girl has copped I would've estimated around $250 for whatever prada or guccithey got there (including the best treatments on the lense and a nose piece). It also depends on what your prescription is (hers is pretty high at around-6.00). The thing is, you've got to tell the vendors that the other store is offering you a better deal so politely ask them for a better price. You couldalso ask them to claim the glasses were a little more than you paid, so that you would be reimbursed more money from your insurance company.

If you haven't already seen this, here's Russel Peters' skit about Pacific Mall. Pure Comedy.

just a lil info about these frames...

they're made by big companies such as Safilo, etc. , so assume they'd be in the same quality

although when I used to work for a lense company that carried frames, I noticed the ones that were made in china were inferior to the ones made in Italy *likemy frame*. the ones made in china look very flimsy and low quality. I stepped on my frame numerous times and the only damage i did on them was the nose pads(which can be easily replaced).

Word. Racism is alive and well at Pac Mall. I went to check on unlocked cell phones a while ago because a friend of mine said they were cheapish(below non contract pricing or whatever). A treo with no box was "fie hunret dorra".

This happened to me all day yesterday. I walk into a store and you have 5 employees just sitting around talking. As soon as an Asian costumerwalks in he/she is greeted warmly and a conversation ensues. I don't mind this in 95% of stores but when it comes to eyeglasses, everything is locatedbehind the display so you need their help.
