Rare Pic of MJ in a Rare Shoe

this is a great topic, thank you all invoved, i have nothing to add(sorry)
But, once all is said and done, PLEASE POST A PICTORAL TIMELINE that shows everything all at once

Jump23 -- THAT is EXACTLY what I'm thinking is the case. The NBA didn't care whether it was a Ship or a Jordan. All they wanted was for him to stop wearing black/red shoes while his teammates were wearing white/red. It was probably that black/red Air Ship he wore for a game or two (or three). I think the story of MJ continuing to wear black/red Jordans and getting fined during his rookie year is just a case of revisionist history. I'd almost bet he NEVER wore them in a game. I will beleive that until someone shows me proof otherwise.

By thy way, I still have the first picture I ever saw of the red/white/black AJ1. It ran in Sport Illustrated along with most of the pics of him wearing the white/red Air Ships I posted earlier in this thread. Back in 84/85 I didn't have the foresight to keep all those SI issues intact. I cut out all the MJ pics and put them in photo albums. So I don't know what issue that was. I will post that pic later 2night. The article also showed a picture of MJ and Rod Higgins racing go-carts. If anyone has a tip on that SI issue, give a holla... It was late '84 or very early '85. I think he was on the cover, schooling Sidney Moncrief of the Bucks.

Yeah the big mystery to me (mentioned earlier) is that I've never seen an in-game photo of the black/red 1s that MJ was fined over. I've seen him wearing them in the dunk contest, but that's it. Who has a picture that clears this up?

Traveler9 : Does that b/w image of Jordan with the B/R Ships have a date on it? or the back? Also, I agree that sounds like the best logical theory so far. I believe NIKE used that pic of the Red/Black Jordan Is with the big red "X"s going thru it as a Marketing thing, since they were probably in development of the shoe anyway while he was wearing the Air Ships. not a super rare pic it was featured in SLAM magazine when Jordan was coming back to the league,they had a whole host of action shots of MJ and on each page they had old school rap verses describing MJ. December 2001 issue

Now, back to the main point of this whole post... DOES ANYONE HAVE OTHER PICS OF HIM WEARING THIS BLACK/RED AIR SHIP WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A PROTOTYPE SOLE?

Additionally does anyone have a photo of MJ wearing the black/red Air Jordan 1 in a game? I don't think he ever wore it in a game.
 
Jump23, here is the picture I mentioned earlier today. This is the first picture of the Air Jordan to ever appear in Sports Illustrated. It was the Dec. 10, 1985 issue. There were several photos with the article. He was wearing the Air Ship in all the other pics. This was the only one of him in Air Jordans. I was already crazy for sneakers back then. But I had not heard that Nike was planning a sig shoe for MJ, so I had no clue what it was. I just saw this photo, the heavens opened up, and angles started singing. Of course when I got my first pair and played in them I couldn't believe what a horrible shoe it was. Performance-wise, compared to the Air Force 1s that I had been wearing, the AJ1 sucked. I didn't care though. They looked gooooood.
