PS3 Heads Come In.

hey, i'm lookin for some advice with my busted PS3.
i bought it Oct. '07 and 2 days ago, it stops reading my discs.
it wont read CD, DVD, or BlueRay
i am pretty sure that the laser eye probably burned out.
my limited one year warranty ended Oct '08.
now i've support the playstation since psone.
but i refuse to pay $150 for them to fix or replace a product that i spent $600 on just last year.

you all have any advice on trying to fix this issue without having to fork out too much dough.
fyi...i've already opened it up to see if maybe something came loose or the laser needed cleaning..
and still nothing.

i've thought about finding someone
around my way, that just got a PS3
and using their receipt and box to exchange mine.
but i dont know if that would work.

If you can find someone that grabbed theirs from Walmart, it shouldn't be an issue.

yeah but target didn't offer me an extended warranty as far as i can remember.

and that's what i am planning on doing hopefully i can find someone that got one from walmart
since they are so lenient on their policies.

My brother sent his in to Sony because It was doing the same thing. He had a warranty though.

call them even though you dont have a warranty and see what they can do. be ASSERTIVE

i already called sony, he sent me to the form online that i fill out for them to send me the box.
and it asks when did i purchase my ps3 and if it's still in warranty i need to provide the receipt.
obviously its not still under warranty so it says that i will have to pay $149 for repairs.

Damn $150 is like $300nzd where im from.. thats like half the price of a new system!

I think you should try the receipt method, try ask someone who purchase from Walmart.

Put an ad on craigslist and ask if anyone knows how to fix it for cheap I see people selling game system repair services for cheap often

The ole switcheroo works! I did it before at wal mart when my ps2 went dead. Just buy one, switch them out and return for full refund. Just make sure you aredelicate with the wrapping.

People exaggerate this whole 360 RRoD thing... yea the 360 has it's problems, but people swear like every system is gonna be faulty

i did this before with my 360 i asked someone in one of the small video game store to print me a fake receipt and i shipped in my 360 with the copy of thereceipt and i got a new replacement

Just go to wal mart, cop another ps3(make sure its the same model as yours) put your broken one into the box and return it while keeping the newone

Or if you do decide to send in your ps3 for repair, make sure you send in JUST the ps3 even though it says to include all wires and controls. i send just mycore unit and they sent me a whole new control av cables power cables usb cables and everything
