Official TMNT thread, return of the classic giant figures

Here's some things I just could not get passed

Yes I knew what kind if movie this was going to be but these are above and beyond the threshold of disbelief

If you haven't seen the movie don't read I guess

1. Splinter learns how to be a ninja from a book he found in the sewer :x

2. Splinter is in NO WAY affiliated with hamato yoshi MEANING he has no connection to the shredder at all :x

3. Shredder was just sacks henchmen in the grand scheme of things. What did shredder want out of this? The main villain of the tmnt universe was reduced to bane status from the batman and robin movie. He was just the muscle :x

4. Shredder has the ability to take down a grown man with his hands tied behind his back but CAN NOT defend himself against April o Neal  :x

5. Quick! which turtle finally rose up against all odds to beat the shredder? Or was it the great master splinter who defeated him? How about April  :x :x

6. Megan O Neal is literally in every scene of the movie. Tmnt aka Meagan fox and hear amazing turtle friends! :x :x

7. The plot was to make the bad guy rich but damn, wasn't he already pretty loaded? Dude works in NY and gets dropped off every day to his castle on a freaken mountain

With that said it's still a fun watch
It seems that your stuck on the old version instead of just embracing the reboot. Splinter learning from a book isn't any different from him mimicking his master from a rat. In fact the new origin makes more sense because he was already mutated when he learned ninjitsu rather than being a normal rat which was dumb in the past.

Splinters affiliation with shredder was that he and sacks both killed Oneils father. They both seemed fairly aquatinted with each other when they first met

Also April was always a huge part of the cartoon, previous movie etc. And aside from the opening portion of the movie, the turtles are almost always present

And man, for the 1000th time, this April killing shredder complaint is so dumb. People seem to leave out the fact that he just had 2 blades thrown into his chest and was hanging one handed from the tower trying to bring it down. All they did was swing her over to kick him. Not like she went hand to hand combat with him and won

As for the plot, it's not great but it's basically the batman begins plot except the villains want money and power rather than punishing the city. Not uncommon ground here

agree with the april premise.... thing is the movie is called tmnt. the movie however was april oneil featuring the tmnt. For being the main characters and the premise of the movie.... they were in the movie less then april....hell less then vern (who by the way dislikes april, but in this one is trying to get with her) And it maybe couldve worked if megan fox wasnt such a HORRIBLE actress. To have the turtles not be the lead of the story is one thing, but to have april be it and to cast the (arguably the worst) actress in mainstream hollywood was just imo and bad move.

Then the villian going thru all this trouble to become rich (well dude is like already a multi-millionaire ten times over) i meant stupid rich. As far as the plot... i agree with one reviewer in that they basically took ASM and substituted spiderman with the tmnt.

The origin in this movie iuno, i mean a book in the sewer... also how did he even learn from a book? wouldnt he have to be taught how to read? Ill ignore the fact a book festering in the sewer would be ruined and more then likely unreadable. And yea the nod to sachs..... aka the guy/company in real life that marketed the og comic book to networks and toy makers is cool and all, but they couldve included/gave him a shoutout in the different way.

Plus changing the origins messes with the introduction of other characters ie.... bebop rocksteady, leatherhead etc. And i liked the nod to the comic series in the intro/outro, but to lead the movie in that direction...only to completely deviate from it in the story/movie is well kinda dumb.

I mean some of the stuff ppl knocked the movie for...ie don with glasses, them not eating pizza AND vanilla ice cream together i think is kinda redic. That and the whole writing a building up to introducing of the tmnt (main characters) was not needed.

As far as ppl saying oh well its a kids movie...well so was the lego movie, so was wreck it ralph etc... And those movies had a good plot/storyline and overall were good/great movies. Why does this movie gets a pass/exception?

saw it last night and simply put, this movie sucked horribly.

its kind of a reboot so i expected them to tweek the story SLIGHTLY, but as far as april and her connection with the turtles, bad move.

movie was wack on several levels., there was waaaaaaay to much focus on april and her co-worker, thought the turtles appearances were wack, the voices were awful, and actual FIGHT scenes were few and far between. there was action, no doubt. but actual fights were scarce. also, raphs rant/confession @ the end was BEYOND cringeworthy/ so corny. hell, the wrinting in general was cheesy. movie was the perfect example of doin TOO MUCH.

its like they tried so hard to re-create tranformers. its NINJA TURTLES! scale it back/down a bit. im all for action but the scene with them sliding down the snowy mountain was way over the top.

instead of just making a decent/solid movie, they did their damndest to make some appeal to the masses (rightfully so. they have to make $, but it doesnt make for a good flick all the time), hollywood summer blockbuster, BS. just another example of a garbage movie over produced to appeal to todays sheep demographic. i can tell some dunce caps are gonna eat this right up...

i never thought the 07 TMNT was a BAD turtles movie @ all, but i def thought this was gonna have it beat. in comparison, TMNT was CLEARLY better than this. the TMNT series on nickelodeon is better than this.

all in all, the first turtles movie will FOREVER remain the KING, the second was 4 stars, TMNT was a decent 3.5, and im not even gonna bother to rate 3 and this latest version.

if your just a casual movie goer, this may be right up your alley. if your a fan of the franchise, i feel your pain.

yea they cartoon on nick is clearly better then this movie... and the cgi/action on the snowy mountain was good.... but where in nyc was this? and how was it all that snow in the SUMMER?

Thanks for telling me why I should like everything

It was my opinion bro, all good if you think different.

When the movie is good it's good. When they show the turtles just being themselves, it was awesome. The elevator scene, the fights, the snow scene, all good money. BUT it was like they were obligated to have fox on camera at least once every 3 minutes

If the movie was damn near all turtles it would of been much better.

Some of you guys are trolling hard or nostalgia has you brainwashed. I watched 90's TMNT till my eyes bled when I was younger and to act like that movie was an oscar nominated picture is hilarious. That movie was ridiculous and awful just like some are claiming 2014 TMNT to be but it had charm. You mean to tell me 90's TMNT had better action than 2014 TMNT? Everyone wants to complain about this new story of splinter reading a book and teaching ninjutsu as ridiculous but the rat in the cage trying to avenge his master and getting his ear chopped off and harboring a grudge is brilliant? when that isn't the true origin of splinter either? Just stop. It's one thin to say this movie was bad, I can see where you're coming from. It's another to keep comparing it to 90's TMNT which in retrospect is just as bad maybe even worse considering how creepy Jim Henson company made the turtles look.

And at least 2014 TMNT didn't have a "little Danny" :rolleyes

I've already said the two movies aren't even comparable because they're nothing alike besides the use of the name tmnt

What are you talking about. I never said why you should like it. I'm responding to your post

You said there's no Yoshi so how would splinter know shredder. I told you how etc

this movie wasn't meant for hardcore TMNT fans who know every ounce of detail about them; pretty simple why

even if they made a movie to cater to that group; that group would still complain and attract less of a mainstream audience

this movie was meant to reach audiences who know only the slightest details about TMNT like the names of the main characters; etc

maaaaan this movie was DOPE! are you guys who are complaining about the movie being cheesy, with plotholes not see this same issue with the OG movie? i loved them both. the OG will always hold a special place in my heart for nostalgic reasons, but this one was pretty good too. again it was meant for the kids and honestly this will be a classic to the new generation as the OG was to ours. stop complaining already. if some of those issues really bother you maybe 25-30 something year olds shouldnt be watching a kids movie about 7 foot mutated turtles who talk..

real talk Raph talking to the guys at the end made me shed a tear. the 5 year old kid in me came out. the feels bro the feels..

Shredder cracking Raphs shell.
When they were pumped with adrenaline going all crazy talking fast.
Mikey not being able to keep his composure when he saw the pizza.

maaaaan 2016 cant come soon enough lol.

i really hope we see Shredder again in a different form, he put in work. even with his Shreddertron suit on.
i actually liked that the Splinter we got wasnt the cane weilding one we all know, he was kind of rejuvenated.
Bring in Casey and Baxter for the next one too.
Save Krang & the TechnoDrome for the third..

8/10 idc idc idc idc idc

I dont think anyone said the og movie was oscar worthy... or should be atop of all-time movies list. And as far as better action thats iffy... The older one in terms of scenes id say yes just because it had faaaaaar more action then the 2014 version. But if you measure just by overall best scenes then yes 2014 has better action scenes.

As far as the origins/history and its ridiculousness of it.... that can be said about any esp...comic book movies. I mean the xmen, spiderman so on and so forth. That doesnt affect the fact that those movies series are good/decent.

The main gripe i had with the movie is that its called TMNT... nothing they did in most part in this movie put the N, in tmnt. Then you add the fact that the tmnt aka the title of the movie werent even the main characters and were more or less sidekicks in a movie thats titled after them.

I get it april is a huge part of the story etc.. the argument ppl use... well first its oh well it doesnt need have to be stick to the script as far as the history of the tmnt franchise, then ppl turn around and become hypocrite with oh well i like the fact its like the og series etc.. where april oneil is a main figure in the story.

And again that might of been fine if the person playing april oneil wasnt hollywoods worst actress. I dare sanyone to name me just ONE, ONE role be it tv/cameo/movie to which megan fox did a good job...hell ill even settle for decent.

No other movie would get this kinda pass. Imagine if man of steel, focus mostly on lois lane, and they cast the worst possible person to play the role. Then on top of that superman was reduced as a after thought in a superman movie? Or how about if the dark knight...was mostly focused on alfred.... and they got some horrible actor to play him... and batman appeared few and far between the movie? No one would be like oh well true it isnt anything like the comics etc... but its still good.

Basically marketing has sold the movie to kids, and revisionist history and nostalgia and lack of consistency (as far as tmnt always in the light, or featured in some kinda way aka like batman and spiderman are) of tmnt material brings out the inner 6 y/o of adults and the desperation for tmnt makes them see this movie with rose colored glasses, and have a predetermined bias to enjoy this movie.

If the exact same plot/storyline etc... was used for any other characters other then tmnt most ppl would be like man wth... Hell if they just didnt get the title page and read the script most ppl loving this film would be like man this movie sounds like hot garbage.

Even if the older movies/cartoons etc... ceased to exist and this movie is judged solely on the body of work, its actors/actresses, the plot and storyline it simply wouldnt be a good movie. Just cause i loved/liked tmnt as a kid, and longed for a new movie isnt going to change that. And in many cases alot of ppl see it the same way.

Maybe some ppl arent just easily entertained, or dont have low standards. Is that even possible in todays day age

And just because its a kids movie....and your point? Hell most of the kids movies have been more entertaining, have more depth and better scripts etc... then so called adult movies.

For everyone who so called went in trying to find something wrong with it, there is equally some over-sized nerd, or some grown person coming into the movie with revisionist history who no matter what good or bad acting aside wold love the movie just cause its tmnt. They couldve pretty much changed everything about the tmnt franchise...(which they basically did) ...and did everything short of bad old karate movie voice overs and some ppl still wouldve thought this movie was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Youre easily amused/entertained and the bar is set pretty low, why knock others just because theirs isnt?
I'm easily amused and my bar is set pretty low? care to tell me anything else about myself?
I went into the movie with no expectations and with an open mind and enjoyed it, not much more to it. I grew up with the turtles but I was never some huge ninja turtles nerd, so I'm not gonna be overly critical about the new movie like you are. cry about it all you want for all i care:lol: my point was that not all people feel like you do, and that negative opinions shouldn't deter others from going to see the movie and forming their own opinion about it.
nobody here is saying this movie was amazing, most have been saying that was a good, solid movie. does it have it's problems and plot holes? sure, but like others have pointed out, so did the og movies.
and i'm not knocking you (or anyone else for that matter) for your superior movie watching standards. just like there are people that are gonna love the movie no matter what and just because it's tmnt, there are gonna be other "revisionists" that will swear the og movies were the greatest thing ever and that will dissect every possible negative thing they can about the new movie

Will I watch the movie? yeah, my local library gets all the new dvds on day 1...

Will I spend my hard earned $ on it? no

man there are soooo many paragraphs in these past couple of pages i feel like im back in college!!
laugh.gif

I have new and old comics i have the 90s live action trilogy watched every series of TMNT shows from the late 80s, the 2002, even the current run from nick, oooh and let please forget FOX awful live action series with venus lol

all i  have to say almost each one has a different origin story, TMNT have been reinvented numberous times get over it!!! i am mad that splinter was american-ized at least

his voice i mean

Blastercombo seems to hit it on the nail it wasnt horrible but there was plotholes in this movie ALOT of them!! the movie couldve used less april i agree but overall i was entertained and they kept the personalities of the turtles in tack. THE MOVIE WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR A SETUP TO A SEQUEL, I SAY GET NEW WRITERS NEW DIRECTOR and bring in purple dragons with casey jones or Krang and rock soldiers and the movie will be amazing!!! i would save bebop and rock steady with shredder for the last movie if they make this into a tilogy

um lol u did in the last page.....lol no one uses the word dope to describe something that is solid or ok..... Who says that i mean really. And considering the movies was meh... and you found it to be amazing and dope.... again your words on the other page shows the bar as far as entertainment and acting is low.

Again i dare anyone to show me one instance to which megan fox acting would be categorized was dope.... good or great? i dont have some rootie tootie snobby choices in movies... (hell ive watched all of the fast and furious series) but for a movie called TMNT and i cannot stress this enough... the movie/story should revolve around them and not side characters and complementary characters.

What other movie in recent years can you name where the main character(s) the premise of the movie is an afterthought and second to cameo and sidekicks? Especially when the subject matter is the title of the movie.

And if anyone says the og movie is without flaws clearly they are a fanboy.... I mean i have seen ppl on here say that part 2/3 were great on some all-time status. I mean super shredder was killed with the bass blast of concert speakers for crying out loud. And ill give you keno was bad... so keno/megan fox is a wash.

I stated before i thought the movie was a solid 6/6.5 and in terms of comic movies etc... imho i think it might be this years weakest output. And as good as the cgi action scenes were, there clearly werent enough of them... Also i hated how they forced feed corny one-liners in movie defining scenes. That and the superbowl halftime commercial for pizza hut.

That i dont care what anyone says.... that pizza in the movies was not no damn pizza hut! I just refuse to believe it was....

Everything aside from the fight scenes was subpar.
Wasn't really feeling the voices or their stature either.
Will Arnot was also surprisingly unfunny.
Could've gone without an Americanized Splinter too.

we need and im still shocked there is no video game to coincide with the release or well the very least a video game period. Its iuno one of those dropping the ball like gotg not thinking ppl would want or by a baby groot toy.

movie video games are a thing of the past. They take too long to make and can get expensive.

@dutchroyalT

there actually is a somewhat new TMNT videogame. it doesnt coincide exactly with the movie (which im glad about bc it was trash) but im pretty sure it was released to ride the wave of momentum the movie creates.

its called tmnt out of the shadows. its DLC, cost about 14 bux and its sick.

def worth the $.

Great movie, didn't ruin my childhood thankfully.

I saw a screening 2 Wednesdays ago and have been telling everyone to check it out.

my gripe has nothing to do with the action being better as you say. no one expects action scenes in a movie that was released in 89 to measure up to present day standards.the tech just wasnt there in 89. same as star wars. the lack of tech is the ONLY thing that can be held against the three older films. sides that, they are relatively just as good as the later episodes. some would say they still dont match up. my gripe has do with the fact that this movie was just a souless money grab.

for example, in the first movie, the scene when raph entered the sewer after his run in with casey jones (CLASSIC) and splinter had that heart to heart with him. or the scene in the OG when they were in the woods training and everyone sat around the campfire and splinters image was in the fire and all of the started tearing up/crying. OR EVEN in the 07 tmnt when raph fought leo on the roof and had em beat but chose not to finish him bc of the love he had for em.

those were all powerful scenes of SUBSTANCE that convey to the viewer the dynamic between not only the turtles but also their relationship with splinter. they conjured up emotions, they were emotionally inspiring in a way.

there was no real connection made between the viewer and the turtles. it was almost as if the directors/producers assumed the viewers already knew everything about the turtles which in turn made for a half *** movie.
i didnt go into this expecting to see a complete re-hash but i also didnt expect to see something so empty/souless either.

im not lookin for those same exact scenes to be carried over into the new movie but @ the same time i dont think its asking too much to expect scenes that conjure some type of emotional link between the turtles. i suppose raphs confession @ the end was somewhat along those lines but did it have to be so freakin corny? that **** was HORRIBLE!

this movie was literally nothing more than some OD CGI action scenes, horrible writing, and a showcase for megan fox.

and btw little danny serves a whole lot more of a purpose in the OG movie storyline than will arnetts character in this one.

like i said, if your a fan, you'll hate this. if not, youre ok with this garbage and thats understandable.

oh i have that and beat the game and lol oddly enough the storyline of the movie has similarities to that of the game.... Thats the one thing when i was watching the movie was like hold on wait a minute why do i no this scene slash part of the movie.... then it hit me. Man that was part of the tmnt dlc game.

I did/do still enjoy the game from time to time... but i was hoping for a full fledged video game. esp with the new technology and advancement in tech/video games. I still find myself from time to time playing some of the og games via n64/gamecube sega etc......
