Today I copped the all black colorway of the Shox Lethal. I also have a pair ordered from Nike iD that I'm waiting to receive. I just got done playing 5 pick-up games (in an indoor gym) wearing the Lethals so I'll try to give a decent review. I'm a 6 2" 205lbs guard who loves to slash and cut to the rim for big dunks & quick pull-up jumpers..

The first thing I noticed when putting them on is that they hugged my feet really good and they were very comfortable. When laced all the way up they offer GREAT ankle support. While playing in them my feet never slid around in them and they have really good traction. I've been playing in 2k5's before and as far as traction goes I think the 2k5's have slightly more traction because of the larger heel section. The Lethals feel just as light as the 2k5's and offer even greater support. The Zoom Air + Shox works great like all the other shoes that have the same setup.

I have to say I'm impressed the Lethals were so comfortable because @ only $100 I didn't think they'd feel as good as the 2k5's but to me they feel much better while playing in them especially when making hard cuts and jumping. Seems like the more I play in my 2k5's the more loose they start to get and I have to keep lacing them tighter and tighter to try to stop my feet from sliding around in them. The Lethals have good ventilation as my feet never got too hot. They also fit true to size. I can't think of anything else to say about them they were just so comfortable I didn't think about them while playing I was able to just concentrate on my game. My 2k5's are now for casual wear only.

It has a foamposite wing in the heel which is giving you that ankle support.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Go Mustangs!

How is the arch on those?
I can't wear most flights because the arches are cut too high for me.
Forces / Maxes tend to fit me better, but those look so hot I want to ID a pair!!

^-----The arch may be a problem for you then. I did notice the arches are cut higher than in my 2k5s. So if you have flat feet you may want to try a pair on for a while to make sure they don't hurt.

do they run wide??? the outsole looks pretty wide on photos...
i have a wide feet

My feet are a little wide and they fit just fine. I don't think you'll have a problem with them.

it's good. But how they compare to other zoom\shox shoes width wise?? is lethals' sole wider?
<<<<WANTED: (sz 11-11.5) XII, XVII, XVIII, 2k3, >>>>

I don't think the sole is any wider than other zoom/shox shoes. If you normally have a problem with zoom/shox based shoes as far as width is concerned you'll probably still have that problem with the lethals. Only way to know for sure is to try a pair on.

decent review. Thanks

but the design is just a lil' too extreme for me! too messy! i don't like it at all! maybe if had Marion's PE, i'll think differently.

Thanks for the review.

Quick question: Does the shoe feel overly restrictive at the ankle, or does it strike a decent balance between support and flexibility/range of motion. The stiff panels on the sides seem like they would make it feel like you had a cast on...

No the shoe does not feel overly restrictive at the ankle. It has a nice "compression feeling" at the ankle. The wings on the sides are not hard & rigid - they're flexible and offer great support without compromising range of motion.. There's also quite a bit of padding between the wings and your ankles. It never felt like I had a cast on.

Actually, for me they were a whole size too big, plus they were fairly wide with a generous amount of room in the forefoot too. Also, though I haven't played in them yet, I have felt some heel slip just wearing them around during the day. I'll post a review once I get to play in them (I also got the black colorway).

I tried them on...the arch didn't feel too bad...they seemed to fit similar to the Shox Xplosive...
I think I'll ID a pair in Phx road colors.

^ the part on the side of the ankle is NOT foamposite.
that would have been cool though, although im not sure having just that area of ankle covered with foamposite would help

these are wide but do they fit true to size?

I normally wear a 13. I bought these in a size 12 and it's a perfect fit. There just would have been an insane amount of foot movement if I hadn't.

i don't really like kickz with pliable ankle support i like them to be a bit firm ionno i don't feel that safe in lethals lol but then again ive never played in them so who knows.

If the ankle support wasn't pliable then it would restrict your range of motion. If a shoe restricted my range of motion I would hate it and wouldn't play in it. So there always has to be a balance between how stiff the ankle support is and range of motion.

I know how you feel. I'm a center and I'm constantly having to worry about my ankles. I'd prefer something firm that puts my worries to rest than something pliable that I feel unsafe in. Screw foot restriction :D

. The last thing I crossed was the letter 't'. I'd love a sneaker with bullet proof ankle support.

Though that's hardly practical when designing a shoe that is supposed to appeal to a wide market.

You could always tape your ankles so it would be very hard to sprain them...if you don't care about foot restriction.

I've played a lot of games in my Lethals and the ankle support is great.

I agree completely. They just don't make shoes like that anymore. Stuff like these:

Clutchshooter,

If you watch the "Breakdown With Designer Dave Roulo" on nikebasketball.com, Richard Jefferson says it is foamposite.

Finally got my ID's so here's my review

Comfort: When I first put these on they felt like they were molded to my foot. There's no inner bootie to be overly restrictive, and unlike most flight series shoes, the arch was not way too high. The only complaint I had in this department is due to the lacing system (regular eyelets instead of a speed-lacing system) you have to pull each row of laces seperately to get a tight fit throughout the shoe.

Support: The support in these was much better than I expected from a flight shoe. The wing was extremely supportive...it acts almost like the monkey paw system. It is not foamposite as many people have suggested, I'm not sure what it is. The ankles also have a very thick layer of memory foam type material between the lining and the outside, creating great comfort.

Cushioning: Excellent. The zoom in the forefoot was cushioned without being too soft or springy. The shox are great as well. These are the best shox I have owned since the Limitless.

Traction: Excellent use of a herringbone pattern. I felt confident I could stop on a dime.

Overall: Some of the best shoes I have worn in a while. Based on their relatively lower price I was pleasently surprised. I ususally don't like Flight shoes, but these performed better than most of the "Big man" type shoes I generally prefer. I give them a 9.5 / 10. Taking away half a point for the lacing system. (no shoe can be perfect but these are close)

Reccomended for: Any position. I play the 4 / 5 and tend to post up. These are good shoes for a big man because of the tremendous ankle support. They are not overly narrow like many flight / shox tend to run. I wouldn't wear them if you have a hugely wide foot, but any normal / medium width foot would find comfort in these shoes. I think guards would like them because the zoom air forefoot does not take you too far off the court like big man shoes.

so yes or no to foamposite?

It definately does not feel like foamposite. It is some sort of textile material that looks like foamposite, but does not have the same foam type properties. It basically just provides support.
