I got a quick question
It's not really about photo editing or anything.
I was wondering how to make Photoshop remember spacing between items.

Let's say I have a square that I want to paste multiple times along the border of a sheet.
The way I do it now is that I make one square on a layer, then duplicate it, move it down the number of space (I remember that amount of space lol) then keep repeating for the next squares.

Isn't there a way to paste the following squares exactly at a certain amount of space from each other?

You're just saving them as a photoshop file (which is useful as it keeps the layers and stuff). If you go to save as it will give you different options to save it - one is jpeg and it will save it as a copy. You can upload that one.

i know this is how dumb but how do i get my layer box back for some dumb reason i closed it?

How do you select more than one object before you do the inverse???

Hold down shift while you click them.

^ you've probably got more than one layer visible - you're seeing through to the layer underneath when you mask. The squares are there to show you when there is nothing there.

Or you could have the base layer set to display something different (if you are seeing white or another color when you mask). An easy way to check that is to hide all the layers - mine shows a whole page of the squares when I do that.

If yours is something different and you want squares you can change it in the settings.

Here's what mine looks like - you can see on the right that there is only 1 layer and it's not shown:

And here's where you can change the appearance if you need to. Go to edit>preferences>transparency&gamut

I'm using CS2 but CS (and even 7.0) are pretty similar. Few nice new features but mostly the same.

Also, how do you simple flip the image, left is right and right is left. And also, im not sure if you use photoshop for this but how do you make those mini videos, that just keep playing and playing, like everyones avatar.

how do u get tha layer masking thing, the huge cricle 2 "erase" the parts u dun want

You just change the brush settings. If you look at the top left you can see I was using a big brush. I start with that and then you can go to a smaller one when you are doing detailed stuff.

^ I'm no totally sure. It's a bit strange how you can't see the shape of the layer mask on the right hand side.

It looks like you have painted grey on top of the layer and not on the mask.

You have to make sure the mask is selected and that you are in either black or white.

Here's what I mean - the first picture is me just drawing on the image. If you look carefully at the bit where the layer mask is you can see that there is a small box around the layer image and not the layer mask.

In the second image I have again painted with the black brush but we are now seeing through to the background - because it's the only layer in this image. You can now see that there is a little box around the mask - I've put a circle round this one - and that the layer mask box has the shape of the mask shown small there.

Hope that helps.

Did this at work too.

This is a pretty cool way to make custom frames for images. You can draw the frame any way you want (and even save them for the future and use them for different images.

1. Open your image. This is my son wearing my old boots at my front door.

2. Make a new layer and fill it with black.

3. Use a white paintbrush - I used one of the charcoal effects to make the brush a bit more interesting and start to paint how you want the frame - you can do anything you like here.

kcjk3t.jpg

4. The rest of my frame.

5. I decided to make this one a little more interesting with a filter (in this case filters>artistic>rough pastels

kcjmzl.jpg

6. The finished frame.

7. Now change the blending mode - it's the little tab at the top of the layers palette - normally says normal. Set it to screen and it lets the image underneath show through the black parts of the layer.

8. The final image.

I could have used a better image - something that is darker works well as you get better contrast at the edges.

It can give pretty cool effects sometimes.

I have a question now. I'm writing a newsletter for work and I have a block of text that I want to put an object in the middle of (it's a cross - like the sort you see on a hospital).

How can I make the text flow around the object rather than just continue across it?I fiddled around with it today but couldn't work it out. Is it even possible?

^^^^^^Adobe has different program for different things......

If your doing a news letter, you should do it in Indesign. On that program, they have an option called text wrap that makes the text flow around an image. But since you don't have it, you will have to do it ghetto style using PS. Just to make things easier, I would just suggest you to recomposition your layout. Perhaps place the image in the bottom right hand corner so that you don't have to wrap the test around the image........

^ I suspected that. It should be pretty easy to do just using the space bar. It's a straightforward shape.

I only have PS - I used to use MS Publisher but I like the graphics options and stuff in PS better.

Try B & N and other places that have a wide selection of magazines. They (Mac Creative and Photoshop Creative) are pricey but worth every penny 15 bucks or so.
