I don't listen to much music besides rap and I was just wondering?I'm not talking about the mixes fans do on youtube, but the actual artists. An what about features? I don't think they're as common in other genresof music.

Not nearly as often and it is done differently.

As opposed to a million remixes being put out to one song all about being how illie somebody is they either change up just the instruments on the track orboth.

It is common practice in house/techno/electronic to do remixes sometimes bearing little resemblance to the former track.

In rock the most common form of remix is a cover song in which the artist/band will replay the entire song except often with a different vibe. Not alwaysthough.

It's more of a paying homage thing in other genres.

Cartel had a remix with Wyclef on the song wasted which was pretty

,also Minus the Bear remixed a song I forgot what it was called though.

I was going to say, they do more remixes than any genre because every DJ tries remixing the song. I.E: Tiesto, Justice, etc.

Remixes aren't even remixes anymore, how you add one line and call it a remix? "Let's get married remix" that's a real remix.

Of course. Pop artists do Urban leaning and Dance/Electronica remixes of their tracks all the time.

And as mentioned, some Dance/Electronica tracks can come with like 9 different remixes.

Rock.....not so much.

Rock/ Pop artists were making remixes b4 Rappers just an FYI
XXL, Source or Vibe had an article on it years ago when Bad Boy had the We Invented the Remix album

But as stated earlier its not as often.

Fall Out Boy ft. Kanye - This Ain't A Scene

your people finally contact Wayne's people, so he adds a verse and it's a 'remix'.

I was gon say something along these lines. Its real common with african dancehall music but done different from hip hop. ex: Dr. Alban - Its MyLife and the remix also you gotta see Bob marley vs. Funkstar de Luxe (hes danish btw) - Sun is Shining

As mentioned, remixes are common practice for electronic artists.

As far as rock.. I think Smashing Pumpkins and NIN had remix albums.

It's a STAPLE in electronic music. For example you may see a remix of a chart topping radio pop song remixed by four different electronic producerspackaged as a promo

Rap/r&b remixes

.

Having Lil Wayne rap on your track with the same exact beat does not constitute a remix.

Since listening to electro and rock, my idea of a remix has been changed completely. A remix should not sound exactly like the original song.
