Meth argued with me over creole languages and the existence of "African American English" once, and I'm 99% sure I won that one. Atone point he was making NT'er-esque arguments and I knew I had him on the ropes and just ended it while I was ahead.Originally Posted by Dirtylicious

it's not even a question...he'd kill me in a debate.
that is probably a good idea. But personally i think its a great for you if you can articulate the same general point without using all of the large vocabulary & eloquent words like that. I know alot of people that get offended if i do that, they seem to think im trying to prove my superiority to them. So while it is great to be able to articulate your points very eloquently, but it is also a great skill to be able to get to the same point without using the same type of vocabulary. So that everybody can understand your point without the difficulty of trying to decipher the vocabulary.Originally Posted by ericberry14

you definitely don't sound like a dumb dude, you know?
so i dunno....my advice would be to read more, or even play around by purposely using vocabulary not in your "everyday" lexicon
He said it didn't really exist, and implied it was insulting to claim it did. I was in the middle of a semester full of language developmentcourses and was armed to the teeth for that debate.Originally Posted by eNPHAN

He does seem like a ridiculously intelligent well read person though. Dude helped me get through an English 2 report my frosh year of college like 5-6 years ago. I doubt he remembers that though.
