I am 21 years old over a years worth of retail experience, I live in the DC metro area so I am looking for a job there preferably during summer and holidaybreaks because I am a college student. I want a government job, like a paid internship but I will settle for a good retail job, preferably pay w/ comission.

With this, the stock market thread, the networking thread, I like the way NT is headed.

Thats what happens in a recession, people finally learnto value their job & money.

I've been working for the government [FDA] going on 4 years but my boss is starting to become a burden and don't enjoy working with her anymore so imtrying to way my options, the only reason i haven't quit is because i know how terrible the job market is right now. Im not slaving for the money because ialready did an evaluation and i could go 9-12 months without income and still be able to pay my bills but i also want to go about things in a smart way and notbe irrational . Like the saying goes the easiest thing in life to do is quit and that's why im trying to fight and persevere

When you already work in government and have a somewhat moderate job history [3-4yrs] its very easy to transfer to another agency. Government jobsare more inclined to hire workers who have previous experience with the government than someone off the street. Check your Outlook email they usually list jobopenings and requirements needed. Just having that you work for the federal gov on your resume can do wonders for your future career.

I would be lying if i said it was because of me. My mother at the time was working as an advertising manager for AJC so she knows a few people soi was referred to a friend she knew in the HHS department. The only downside to applying for a government job is that its hard getting hired if you don'tknow anybody, cronyism is highly practiced. My 3 co-workers were hired because my boss knew their parents. Usajobs.gov is the federal gov official job site.

Im currently an assistant manager at Wamu/Chase. PM me if you want some information or a refferal. (I dont know what it is with all the bankers in here lol)

If getting a govenmentjob was that simple of an equation don't you think I would already have an internship? You have to know somebody in the government to have a better shot atgetting the position, so just my luck I was never supplied that weapon. Thats why it was easier for you because you already had someone inside to make thehiring process a breeze. So thanks for trying help a brother out, but things aren't always that simple.

Oh and to add about what I was looking for I would like to do retail maybe something like Radio Shack, Sprint, or even selling clothes or shoes likeDownTowLockerRoom, FL(or any of their subsidiaries), or Up Against the Wall

I think this is a great way to help people out....

On my end, the Hospitality Industry covers a HUGE area of fields....travel cruises, hotels, conventions, restaurants, sales, even retail, etc....

so basically no matter what occupation you currently are, or what you used to be, experienced or non-experienced....this industry has something for you(potentially).....just get your age up (for those under 18)....battle out your "means-to-an-end" jobs and see where it take you from there...

anyways, they have a LOT of new hotels opening up for starwood.......

What is "long?"

Long in the sense that you can slick it back in a pony tail.

Or long like it's shaggy and you cant do anything to it?
