it's not that much if you have good quality rips. might be 100-150 albums tops.

I'm at 15,000 songs, 70GB. 25,000 and 100 sounds about right.

I know many album i have are over 100 megs.. but let's just say they're 100 for arguments sake... so 10 albums is a gig.... 100 gigs wouldactually be 1000 albums. I forgot a zero.. sorry about that. Still - not the numbers you guys are talking about, but more than i initially indicated.

those are either very poor quality rips, or 1.5 minute tracks. one of my drives exports a playlist of around 38,000 tracks @ 525 gb.

the majority of it is 320 KBPS AAC or MP3s
10/15 Lossless Audio joints
nothing except for 4 or 5 albums are 128 kbps
if i knew how to use FLAC rips with iTunes id do all the ones i could in that.

thats about right for good quality. a typical album compresses down to 80-110 mb ripped vbr v0 extreme mode. cbr 320 can take it on up to 150 mbper disc.

yea, itunes is chitty and shouldnt be used for ripping. eac is the standard and will get you where you need to go, especially for flac.

flac is so clutch... but i don't have the space

needa update my external harddrive someday, get one of those multi-terabyte joints.

Happened to me twice, but not with the many songs.

The worst part isnt even losing it, its trying to remember what to download.

What does owning an Ipod have anything to do with losing your music because your computer crashes???

no EAC on a Mac FTL

wow, i guess that does really suck. no eac = read errors galore. its impossible to even get into the good private trackers without the proper setup.

If you have all your music in your iPod, you can get a program to transfer it all to your computer.

i gotta 500gig ext hd which is really 465gigs and its already full. id lose my mind if i lost it all. i think i would just give up cuz i put alot of time insearchin for %$%+.

Oh yeah to stay related to the post subject,I lost over 300gb of music and pictures last year when I was in Iraq.I still have not got over it.I sent my harddrive to Seagate and to some Hard Drive Recovery place in Toronto neither was able to fix it and I was willing to pay the $3,200 to fix.Best believe all of myext hard drives are Western Digital now.

When the music gets wiped out from your computer, they'll still be in the iPod, even when you plug it in! Duh!
