I woldn't suggest a portable studio b/c it will be harder to set up and bring all the essential external things you will need to get good quality out of your music. I don't even know if that portable booth u posted even works I heard it was coo for podcasts and what not but haven't heard too much as far as music recording.
It supposedly works pretty decent, But obviously it's not a substitute for a real booth. By no means is it soundproof, You have toeliminate/avoid outside noise and record in a quiet place.

Edit - I see what you saying Floss...

What's your take on this?

What else would I need externally tho? Other than the Laptop, PortaBooth, Mic, And external HD?

But forreal since u are goin to do the whole portable thing, make sure u secure ur stuff when movin it. Avoid a lot of bangs and bumps.

^an interface

Those are a lot better but, you have to get the mic closer to the front... Alot of home studios, like to flat the sound of the voice, so that the engineer canmanipulate it his way, but in reality one of the best postions is

1. on carpet
2. in the center of the room
3. sound proof in different patterns on the wall, that way when your voice bounces around, it its getting broken up and not coming directly back to the mic

Now of course this is what i rec. for non engineers, but engineers and real studios know how to get that good sound out of anything it seems LOL

Tell what I need to cop...This is what I know so far...

Portable Booth

In addition to the XLR Energee recommended...

According to Dathbgboy I'll need a laptop with mad RAM and a good processor? Recommendations?

Plus an external HD...

And I'm not an engineer by any means...What programs would you suggest? I can get Pro Tools, But is there anything that's just as good with an easy to pick up interface?

I'd just be recording myself basically, Then sending the files off to be mixed...Cuz iono how to do that *%*#...

1gb of RAM would be good but I'd get more to be on the safe side. But I was thinking u were running a desktop for some reason, the "Inspiron" escaped my eyes

. I would recommend any laptop w/ a min 1gb RAM and a Core 2 Duo processor.

U can easily upgrade the RAM, the processor not so much.
Go to ur local Wally World (Walmart) or just get a Dell. Do not buy a laptop w/ an AMD processor in it. It won't run programs to efficiently from what I've read.

Well I stand corrected. Well I know u can't dual-boot your hdd w/ an AMD cause it won't run MAC OS X well.

if you dont have an acoustically treated room, then get a dynamic mic. all a condenser is gonna do is expose how bad your room sounds because they're sosensitive. look at the shure sm7b. it's an amazing dynamic mic for vox. look up all the classic albums that have been made with that mic. the great thingis a dynamic mic wont pick up a lot of your room ambience

Now that is true, mac os x is strictly intel for the time being

-Digidesign Mbox 2 Audio Interface with protools 7.whatever
- PC or MAC with at least 2 gb RAM ( i got a mac and there is NO problems) EVER
- Condenser MIC( so many to choose from) I'd go with either ,Shure KSM27 Studio Cardioid Condenser Microphone or Audio Technica AT4040 Cardioid CondenserMicrophone

Daw on a budget - reaper or cool edit pro

The monitor / headphone thing is tricky...if your ears are developed and you know what your doing then you can mix with either or...

I use a mix of both and my car speakers as a reference, you see good monitors can lie to your ears, because they're quality ... But everyone doesn'thave quality speakers ... So a certain part of the mix might not show up on weak headphones or speakers

Use ipod headphones and car speakers as a refernce..meaning see how the songs sound on those and make adjustments accordingly until you get the sound you like

I've been really busy since I made this post but I got a chance to check it out a bit and there is tonnnnnnnns of good info here. Thanks guys, you are thetruth.
