I remember a few months ago, I read an article from xxl or the source (cant remember which one) and it talked about how 2pac was an overrated MC.

Now, I personally agreed 50/50 with the article because it did make multiple points (especially about how 2pac recycled material constantly and used similarsubject matter.)

2pac was not a straight gangsta dude his entire life, he came to some sort of realization after art school that he was a thug.

However, I do disagree with the article on the quality of music 2pac dropped. He could make a record anytime/anywhere and I give him a lot of credit for that.He stood out tremendously compared to other MCs during this time period as well.

I like 2pac..a lot...but I do think there are better MCs out there especially during his lifetime....

This will not end will.....

But if the question is "Is Tupac an overrated MC?" ...... the answer is yes.

IMO he is by far the most overrated MC in history.

Kool G >
Mos Def>
Rass Kass>
Xzibit>
Prodigy>
Em>
Blackthought>
Jadakiss>
Big Pun>
Big L>
Biggie Smalls>
Big Boi>
Jay-Z>
Andre>
Lauren Hill>
Common>
Countless other MCs>

As an artist and musician he was light years ahead of most of those MCs named but by the conventions of a Hip-Hop MC he was average at best. For his name to beat the top of the All-time MC list is crazy to me. Crazily overrated MC.

Lyrically 2pac wasn't the best or top 10 ever, however, his emotion and narrating delivery made his one of the greatest. Pac had "it" which a lotof lyrically gifted MC's don't have.

Not overrated but not my GOAT. I understand why people have him as GOAT though, just means you feel his music like that. IMO there were people nicer on the micbut no one put as much emotion into their music.

I understand why some people say he's GOAT, but he's not GOAT for me. He's a little overrated IMO.

Honestly you can not name an artist in this genre who's music has touched the masses like this man's

You can't name artist in this genre who's work evoked so many different emotions. Could make you cry, laugh, dance chill and most important of allThink.

Based on that I disagree.

Hes is a great artist without doubt, top 3 in Hip-Hop history.....but he's widely considered the best MC ever, thataint close to being true.

That's the FIRST time I've ever agreed with you.
As a MC..yes
As an Artist..no.
Grestest of all time IMO.

Well what do you consider an MC? A Microphone controller or a lyricist? Cause if its the 1st I dont see why not he could control a crowd with hiswords and leave audiences captivated. But when it comes to lyricists even though he's my favorite artist of all time he's between 20-30 when it comesto that

Lyrically 2Pac was never that great of a rapper. But he is my favorite rapper. To me 2Pac was the most influential and real person I ever heard of in my lifeand has taught me a lot. I listen to Pac everyday, his messages of social conflicts and stress on the importance of the youth are very powerful.

MOST INFLUENTIAL RAPPER EVER. GREATEST OF ALL TIME IN MY OPINION.

Even though he was not as gifted lyrically as Biggie, I think he was able to make better music.

is it his presence that makes him so popular or the image??

I think it's a combo of both....but honestly back to what seymore said?? i think there are alot of people in this genre that are capable or have touchedthe masses. but 2pac is publicly more acknowledged for achieving this feat.

He's no more overrated than BIG, and he's certainly not as overrated as Jay.

*ducks as Jay stans take the slong out their mouth to momentarily throw random objects in this direction*

Any artist worth a damn is going to be overrated in certain circles, Pac might not even be in my top 10 but he's still one of the best to ever do it.

As an artform Hip-Hop has always been anti-conformist and spontaneous, so we tend to stray away from formal definitions and such but the true judge of anMC's ability has always been his/her lyricism. A hit maker, a strong personality, a crowd mover...those are things embodied in all music forms. Theuniqueness and centerpiece of Hip-Hop music is its concentration on lyricism. MCs don't need to have a singing voice bu they better come correct lyically.Thats why terms like rappers and Hip-Hop artist began developing and taking a life of their own, to differentiate an ill artist/rapper from a dope MC. If youlook at the history of MC'ing its evolution and measure has always centered around lyricism. Its still subjective and opinionated but being a top MC isreally about using the lyrical conventions of Hip-Hop lyricism at the highest possible level. Q-Tip...on the list of of the greatest Hip-Hop artists ever hestop 10/15...as a top MC he doesn't hold the same ranking. Its the same thing in Jamaica with Reggae (which is hip-hop's cousin/brother) you have greatartists and great "DJs" the difference is lyricism..

2Pac was the man. It's rappers like Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy that make me want to puke. Those talentless losers need to stop while they're ahead. LilWayne's voice is pathetic.
