hello nt. usually i don't make these types of posts, but since my girl and i are hitting up paris in may for the first time, i bought some new shoes totrek around france (see below). since i'm bored at work...i've been reading through guides for the city, etc. and come across quite a few articlesabout how corny it is and it's so "american tourist" to be wearing white sneakers. personally, i've been wearing white shoes or at least gota few on rotation since high school. i don't really care if french people or any other people i don't know for that matter like what i'm wearing, but i just want to get a concensus for the heck of it. so what do ya'll think? faux paux (practicing my french already) or not?

Tennis shoes scream American tourist in Europe. Take it for what you will. But its true

Just wear some ones with some colour, then.

It's not that hard.

Besides, why would you want to wear white shoes for walking anyways? They aren't any more comfortable than black, red, blue, or green ones.

Truth. hahaha.

You really care what some french people think about your kicks. Are you afraid to be american? There gonna find out anyways when you ask for directions.

old bald man with fanny pack mode

i see the type here where I live and where I go on vacations..

most vacationers wear new stuff for some reason. breaking out the new stuff just for vacation. not that its a bad thing, its just predictable. wear them a bitnow so you dont look so out of place.

it rains so much there that your white shoes wont stay white for very long

My advice is to wear black and that way they stay looking good even when they get wet and dirty from walking around all day

w0rd, do you. but them all white bursts are straight up nurse status homie.

only all whites i rock are shell toes and forces. that being said, i usually go for the white/black striped superstars and i cant say that ive rocked a pair ofwh/wh forces in the past few years. so... maybe i agree w/ the euros...

and tell your girl not to wear heels unless its just for dinner or whatever, every girl in europe wears boots...the streets are oldschool you will break anankle

I didnt even wear the heels I brought once they ended up just taking up room in my suitcase

edit * and make sure to have gloves and a scarf/pashmina and a good jacket and an umbrella...no joke I used those items everysingle day of my trip...... its frkiin cold over there...cashmere or wool is the best....and riding all the trains you have to hold the poles and !##+ there isdirty you dont really want to touch the stuff in the subways so gloves are awesome

dam...
i just realized i havent worn all white kicks since the air force 1's dropped back in middle school...

but i took a semester of french with a french/france OBSESSED teacher & he told me the same thing about white shoes

haha. i work at a hospital and i'm filipino, but i'm not a nurse. the shoes were only $25 and they're pretty much beater status once i hit thepavement (if you do need these nursing shoes, check out your local nike outlets). anyways, thanks for all the replies so far.

^^ lol. nice. my mom/aunts (all nurses) used to always cop the all white bursts or air max trainers.... so i always associate hospitals with all white airmax'.

dont wear all white shoes, in paris i had to walk alot and it rained throughout my trip. i just stuck with my air max 360s

those shout tourist, most definitely. i've got a pair of all-white suede/nylon lacoste phoenix sneakers that i actually bought at the flagship store there;they don't look that touristy (to me, lol, i saw a guy rocking them on the champs). you'll see all kinds of things in paris and many folk you runacross will be tourists as well, unless you're there for a while and really stray off the beaten path.

I don't think it matters as much in France

But if you were going to go to a third world country with all white Nikes you would get took

Went to Paris last May and rocked my infrared 90's and black toe air structures the whole week I was there. Did a lot of walking around so I was
thankful I had some comfortable kicks. It did rain 3 days out of the 7 I was there. I would definitely avoid wearing all white kicks!

Word. The same goes for Asian tourist who come to America with those huge camera's hanging around their necks.

thanks again for all the replies. and thanks AAclaire420, i'll give my girl the heads up. and funny thing is, i don't want my kicks to get dirty, that's why i'd be rocking these or something predominantly white-based. i'd rather save my nicer shoes for something other than the rigors oftravelling. although i did take my spiridons to san francisco and they didn't take too bad of a beating. also, thanks for the advice, i didn't know itwould be raining there so much. we'll be there for 2 weeks, so i'm just trying to think of what i'll take and can have the most use/outfits with(hence white shoes).
