It's called having standards.

If you don't have standards, you'll be impressed by anything.

Im just saying if you are going to compare every new Jay song to his BEST material, OBVIOUSLY you are going to be disappointed. Was American Gangster a greatrecord? Absolutely. Is it as good as Reasonable Doubt? Of course not. If you constantly compare new music to that artists best work, you will end updisliking it a lot more than if you dont compare.

And if you are going to tell me that when listening to a new track/album your "standards" are set at a level of top hip hop tracks/albums of alltime, then EVERYTHING (99.99%) will be not good enough.

Im not feelin this or any of the random tracks/verses hes dropped since a.g.
ugh i hate to say it but it might be time

reminds me of....
"let me hear ya man say hes the jordan of rappin
hes gettin fatigue early and his scorin lackin
his legacy is gettin ruined and you don want that
so pretty much learn from him DONT COME BACK

beat is dope

real smooth *%%, I feel like throwin on a sweater, some slacks and some loafs and hittin the town on my "Change Clothes" type *%%

I couldn't agree more. Its laughable to me when people do this...as I said earlier in the thread they have no concept of music appreciationbecause they lack the ability to look at each track/album independently. There is nothing wrong with comparing work however when you use that solely as yourbasis to judge an artist there is no way you can truly appreciate the music.

I have standards but it has nothing to do with comparing an artist to their past work; sometimes artists evolve for the good (as is the case with Jay). However some people are so stuck in the past that they miss that.

I still also do not get those who claim they "expected more from" this track. How did you even have expectations for something that you had no ideawas coming out?!

the lyrics on this are real

like the realest +%$* he spit since american dreamin

jd did this and it was left off of american gangster

sounds like he did this right after he recorded i know

Bingo...which is why (with Jay) I don't understand why people don't like BP2 or KC especially BP2. IF he had came out with a bunch ofRD's people would be complaining because everything sounds the same.

this song is so damn smooth and dope....i love the beat...i like the topic of the song...8/10 it'll be on repeat for a while
