This Avy Situation Needs To Be Addressed...

I can't believe people actually want pictures sig's - haven't you ever been to other boards (ISS?) where they have huge obnoxious sig's thatare about 3 times longer than the actual posts.

Just awful.

Don't look at me - I didn't code it. That's an issue you're free to report in the yuku support forums, it's something I'll bring up along with other issues and suggestions surrounding the migration, but it's not something I can fix directly.
The size limits are what they are. The needs of dial-up and mobile device users remain the same. There's no functional reason why anyone needs a 20 second movie in their personal pic. We'd like ezboard to address the issue, but the size requirements will remain the same.

If you can't meet the size requirements now, use a still image. Still images are automatically resized to fit the space, so no one should ever have a problem with file size. It's only moving images that have proven problematic.
We won't be BANNING people for it, but we can disable your personal pictures so they won't display on our forums.

I appreciate you not banning anyone, but the problem is that these Avies aren't 20 seconds. They're 3 seconds, and they're still over the limit.

Our desire to have the board load as quickly as possible takes precedence over your desire to have an animated .gif instead of a still image while we waitfor Yuku developers to resolve the problem or give us a workaround.
You're asking us to raise the limit because we've increased the dimensions of avatars. That isn't going to happen.

You're asking us to raise the limit because Yuku is increasing the file size on its own. It should be a temporary issue and there isn't a need to have animated .gifs as avatars while we wait.

Have any of you taken this issue to the Yuku Report a Bug forum? They're your best bet for a resolution to this problem.

I don't want huge obnoxious pics.. if they did let pics in sigs (which they won't since meth just made that obviously clear), i would expect the 5line sig rule to still be in effect.. so a sig pic would be like a max height of like 150px.. or something like that.. but whatever, its coo, pics in sigscould get annoying because i know some people would put some stupid stuff down there..

no one on this board can even get that long of a scene, even back when they were 60X60, You're right no one NEEDS to have a video avy, it is pure preference but even when people on here are still trying to stay within the limits wecan't due to the files being resized and expanded. I feel as if the option should be that avys are maximum 100X100 not a requirement

well then you should not force everyone to have an image that is 100X100, because if people were able to upload their previous 60X60 images thenthere would not be any need for this discussion, well, except for the problem with the size doubling when it's uploaded through yuku.

i appreciate the mods helping us out.
why is it that the size of the avy almost doubles in size when its uploaded into yuku? im with dub, something needs to be done. ive been trying to get the sizeof my avys down to the point where the colors used are at like very minumun & the seconds are no more than 3. . i understand you guys cant just change thedimensions allowed immediately, but meth, or another admin, do you think you can bring this up with peyton or someone & get them to change the dimensionsback to 60x60..
would 200k or 250k slow nt down that much?

Ok... since it's expected to be only temporary and expected to be corrected, I'll settle for my current avy. But please Peyton, fix this problemASAP.

The system doesn't work that way. It automatically resizes images to fit the 100x100 area. That's so because, often times, users choosehuge images to fill a small space, and it's wasteful.

The only problem is that it's resizing your 60x60 images to 100x100 resolution, and that comes with a size increase.

If we really wanted to make enforcement easy and consistent, we'd just prohibit moving images. Again, they serve no functional purpose. Life would be alot easier for the staff without checking hundreds of file sizes.
So, what would you rather we do: keep the size limit or have NO size limit and eliminate movies? If everyone used stills, there'd be no file size issuesand enforcement would be simple. All stills are fine, all movies are not.

Compared to the alternative, I think you should be pleased that we're still allowing movies provided they adhere to the existing size limitations. Wecertainly don't HAVE to take that route. Again, life would be much easier if we didn't.
If the problem can't be solved, we may have little alternative but, for the moment, we're trying to allow those images to stay.

If you want to make my life more difficult, I don't think getting rude about it is a good strategy. Accept that dial-up users are important. "Is itreally going to affect them if..." is silly. We're talking about 300,000 byte images here. If just a few users have those images, it adds upquickly. Why should it take you minutes to load a page on NT just to see the same silly movie you've seen 1,000 times before? That is NOT our priority, but because it's important to a few of our members we're trying to find a compromise. That doesn't have to be the case. Stills, in many ways, are better for everyone. They're easier to load, the rules are easier to follow, and it's easier to enforce.

^ i agree not only dial up users, but users using mobile devices.. i'm glad you guys got rid of that scrolling release date bar at the top, that thing tookforever to load on my dash, things should go smoother now..

it was increased by 66.7 % not 170%

66.7% of 150kb is 100...so thats 250
