so me and my friends were having a debate as to which sport is harder to play..hockey or soccer...soccer cuz u have to run alot, and make the ball bend certainways... hockey cuz u have to be on skates, and shoot the puck different ways, not to mention its all contact... so which do u guys think?

Anyone who says Soccer hasn't played Hockey at all.

I dare anyone to go 5 full minutes in a hockey game at full speed.
#%+% is no joke son, they play the game at 500% speed.

you're absolutely right, i've never played hockey..so i guess i have a pretty biased opinion

I don't want to come through with the "Holier than thou" attitude,

BUT
Hockey player barely play more than 1/3 of a full game.
20 mins. out of 60.

There's a reason for that.

As someone who played soccer for 11 years, I've gotta say Hockey is harder to pick up, but it's real hard to tell which is harder to master... I thinkhockey's harder to master. With soccer, there are way more 'greats', Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo, Ronaldhino, C. Ronaldo, Henri, Totti. Gretzky is oneof the few athletes who totally dominated his sport, and someone who hasn't had anyone near him since. Lance Armstrong and maybe Tiger Woods are the onlyathletes who compare in their sport.

Tough question, and I definitely didn't do it justice, just my opinion... I think soccer is a much more beautiful game, but hockey is one hell of a hardsport.

you obvi have to be in great shape to play soccer, because u are constantly running, but hockey players go through tremendous ammounts of run training, theyare constantly moving as well not to mention trying to get a puck in the air with velocity... cuz just hitting a puck with a stick wont make it airborn, itwill make it slide across the ice... something i dont think most people realize

i don't play either, but it almost seems obvious that it's hockey.

Hockey-tons of equipment, ice skates
Soccer- jersey and shorts

soccer- you are running
Hockey- you are iceskating

soccer- you're kicking a decent sized ball with your feet/head
hockey- you're hitting a small puck with a curved stick.

soccer-warm weather
hockey- you're on ice, nuff said.

soccer- goal is like 10 feet wide
hockey- goal is like 3 feet wide.

With all that said, basketball FTW

That's a flawed logic because of soccer's popularity. The WHOLE world plays soccer, how many countries really play hockey?

hockey because of the physical contact. hockey players look like they've been in a war after a game, while soccer players flop to the ground and writhe inpain at the slightest bit of physical contact.

That's true, but the number of people playing each sport makes it difficult to say which is really harder to play. Doesn't soccer's mass popularityhave something to do with it being easier to play? Based on percentage of who plays and who are pro, soccer's obviously harder to be pro at. Hell, my BCcity of 80,000 has like 3 NHL players from it. But I still feel hockey's harder to master.

i think its harder to make the NHL than it is to play pro soccer... i mean u see kids like adu and all playing pro when they are 16 and such.. but inhockey.... only a few number of teenagers make it to the NHL due to the physicality and such

thank you....

Not to say there's obvious gap, but it is hockey. Imagine sliding down on your side to block a 90 - 100 MPH slapshot from the point? IMO it's the upthere as one of the top professional sports to play.

I still have aches and pains and I haven't played in a couple years

Hockey...., games are played somewhat similar, but you get hit more, wear 20 lbs of equipment and have to do it all on skates...

There's gonna be a lot of bias coming from both sides. I don't watch much of soccer, but I know that hockey dudes are some of the toughest SOB'sthat you will find in the major sports (b-ball, football, baseball, hockey) in the US. You have the conditioning aspect where you are pretty much sprinting for30-45 seconds in a shift. Not to mention that you have dudes waiting to plant your face into the glass or with an open-ice hit...then there is the coordinationfactor in not just being able to skate, but stickhandle, shoot, etc...

I'm gonna sit back and enjoy this thread....

Doesn't soccer's mass popularity have something to do with it being easier to play?

Yes. Soccer's mass popularity has to do wit 2 things. 1- it is the easiest of all the sports to play and 2- it is the cheapest of all the sports to play.

As an immigrant Canadian I have played both at the high school level. Though they are honestly really similar, hockey is just a faster version a smaller field.Honestly I would always credit the fact that I picked defenseman in hockey really quickly because I grew up playing defense in soccer.

Which one was harder? They are probably the same.

what about in terms of scoring.... is it harder to curve and bend a soccer ball, or do a wrist shot, slap shot, etc

separate argument: is being a NHL goalie the hardest thing in all of sports?

It's easily the second hardest position in all of pro sports. NFL quarterback is still the toughest though.

Toughest sports to play (and be good at, assuming you have some athletic ability) IMO...

1. Hockey

2. Baseball (Never played but can't imagine being able to hit a fastball/curveball/slider)

3. Soccer

4. Basketball

5. Golf

6. Football (any position other than QB)
