Well, today is a very tragic day. Today marks the 50th Anniversay of the Day Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and JP Richardson aka The Big Bopper died in a tragicplane crash in Clearlake, IA after performing at the Surf Ballroom the night before.

I know must you young cats don't listen to much of the older music, but maybe you should. Buddy Holly inspired the Beatles, Rolling Stoes, Bob Dylan amongthousands other players. As the old legend goes, anyone who ever played a Fender is inspired by Buddy Holly. Richie Valens was 17 when he died, but wasbeginning to break into mainstream music. His influence is still heard in must Latino music. JP was doing this to support his family, and was the sole reasonfor his music.

Let me put this into perspective. Evlis was in the Army, Little Richard was retired and no you just last two of the biggest acts in Rock N Roll. The evenbrought an end to the 50's, and it wasn't until Don McLean's American Pie did anyone remeber their music. To put it into perspective, just imagineif Kanye, Lil Wayne, Beyone, Miley Cyrus, Jonas Bros, Jay-Z, Nas Justin Timberlake died in a place crash.

a very classic quote that haunted Waylon Jennings
When Holly learned that Jennings wasn't going to fly, he said, "Well, I hope your ol' bus freezes up." Jennings responded, "Well, I hope your ol' plane crashes." This exchange of words, though made in jest at the time, haunted Jennings for the rest of his life.[sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_the_Music_Died#cite_note-Jennings-3[/sup][sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_the_Music_Died#cite_note-4[/sup]
If anyone cares of course...

Rest in peace to all the fallen greats

But there was ALOT of better music that came out after he died.
And there's been much better rap music since Sugar Hill Gang, but they still have their place in history.

Yet we have a hundred threads for every dead rapper.

That's because rappers are relevant to us. Buddy Holly and Big Bopper aren't. Nothing against them but those guys didn't impact the lives of anyoneunder 60. Unless you've purchased some of their music recently on cd.

Big loss....but truthfully coming from someone who listens to "rockabilly" music and what not i feel that it really wasnt as big as they make itseem...richie valen was ehh. Big Bopper was pretty good, but Buddy Holly had something going for himself. He is the only one who would not of really fallen offin the transition faze of rock and roll. BUT R.I.P really is a sad day.
